The mencoder binary has the lines
    Code:
    MEncoder dev-CVS-051126-18:35-3.3 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team
Mac OSX static build for ffmpegX
directly following each other. If this line "parse error at line 1" somehow came between it, then the binary wasn't installed correctly. When he is just running mencoder, it already gives errors, even before it looks at any file.

jim.eye should log in with an administrator account, download a fresh copy from the URL mentioned in the Installer window, unzip that on his desktop, use the Locate buttons for mplayer and mencoder, set the appropriate checkboxes, let the installer copy them to the right location, then trash the originals on his desktop.
