For the past couple of days I have been looking for the answer to why TMPGEnc is not responding.

I first got the message in task manager when my encode froze and couldn't get it to finish encoding.

Then I tried to splice at the section were it stopped encoding so my video wouldn't miss a scene but TMPGEnc would only do about 1% then freeze, again task manager "not responding".

After frying my brain going from one posting to the next here and on the TMPGEnc site I THINK I may have an answer.

After freeing up and defraging memory, changing my swap settings, defraging my HD, and opening the the case and placing a fan to it nothing worked.

MY stinking file had an error at the point it stoppped which caused TMPGEnc to not respond. I checked the last part that I was trying to splice in and it too had an error so it only got to 1% then locked up TMPGenc.

I found the problem viewing the section in virtualdub then seeing an error at the bottom of the program then went frame by frame to see how many frames had errors. Keep in mind that going frame by frame will alow you to see them but it won't play them.

Keep in mind my file was downloaded off the web so the compression may have caused the error or even the capture device from the source but never the less this was my problem. Hope this helps those othre people with no real answers out there.
