I recently purchased a JVC Everio GZ-MG145 HD camcorder and the filming has been great.

    However.

I cannot get the files onto my mac.

I can view them on the windows pc, but they can't be accepted in Windows Movie Maker.
On the mac, the camera comes up as normal with a thumbdrive icon, and I can find the movies on there, but they're a .mod file which a) i've never heard of and b) isn't accepted by quicktime or vlc. When I put the disc that comes with the camera into the pc it works and it installed "PowerCinema NE for Everio" and that works fine. But on the Mac, which is where I need the files, it comes up with a CD on the desktop with a whole load of junk on it with no installer or anything I can find. Can anyone help me?

I've been pointed in directions of codecs but I'm not sure what I'm dealing with there.

    Please help!
    Cheers.

you'll find all you need by reading this link :

    http://i.nconspicuo.us/2007/01/26/convert-mod-files-to-mpg-or-avi-jvc-everio-hdd-camcorder/

Both pc and mac are dealt with, thou you will need to read down through it to find what you need.

I forgot to mention you can transfer them to pc and simply rename the extension to mpg.

Windows movie maker can except mpeg2, but its problem is with specific audio types it will not accept, such as ac3 audio

Well I found the answer finally... for Macs that is

You need to buy a firewire cable for it that plugs into video cameras (buy them from any electronics stores) and it should fit the slot next to the USB wire (it's called a 4 pin or something).

Anyway, when you plug it in it won't come up on your desktop. Go into imovie (might work for the better ones. ie. final cut etc.) and then go to the index play screen ON THE CAMERA! Play any movie. It should pop up on imovie and then you can go through them using imovie, pressing import etc. etc.

hope this helps - sure stumped me, was one week away from buying a new camera.

    WOOT!
