  1. Hi.
I have no internet connection on my own computer. i do all of my internet stuff at the library as i don't realy trust the internet with my personal info.
as a result i quite often download software etc onto a memory stick and install it onto my home pc.
for some time now i have been getting a message on my screen at startup saying that my computer was unable to connect to a website.
i have no idea what software has caused this to happen or what website my pc is trying to connect to.
does anyone know how to stop this.
    thanks

What is the exact text of the message? (A screencap would be best)
It could be coming from any of the programs that you have installed. It's very common for software packages to attempt to check for updates and it is usually easy to turn it off, but of course you have to know which software is trying. The message usually (but not always) identifies the exe making the attempt or the website it's trying to reach, but it may not be easily recognizable as a program name you installed. You could also check the event logs to see if anything is reported there with better detail.
Of course, it's also possible that it's spyware or malware. You should do an AV scan and an adware/spyware scan.

Run hijackthis, scan and sav log, post to have it checked for issues
