Long time reader; first time posterActually I haven't posted before because I've usually been able to find the answer I was looking for without having to post a new thread. But there's a first time for everything. I went to ADS Tech's website and downloaded both new drivers for Vista (Cap Wiz and one for recognizing that the Xpress device is connected to the PC). The Vista driver version is 3.0, created 1/31/07. Is this the most recent one? It took forever before I could the newest one that I knew of loaded because prior to this Cap Wiz kept giving an error message that the driver needs updated. At that time, it was something like version 2.6 from 2006. Anyway, even with this most recent driver it still doesn't work only this time is the Blue Screen of Death. Message at the top states "BAD_POOL_HEADER" along with the usual codes at the bottom like 0x00000019 and you could probably guess the rest. The Cap Wiz comes up fine but as soon as I try the "Preview" or "Record" options is when the BSOD comes up. My PC was purchased last year with Vista Home Premium already installed and not an upgrade from XP (if that makes a difference). I know the ADS products have had some issues with Vista but I thought I saw on one of these forums that some others had gotten it to work so it made me think I must be doing something wrong.

If I had Vista Premium (instead of basic) on this machine: I would've gone to XP Pro a long long time ago. A Long, Long, Long Time AGO.
Vista is buggy, even with tweaks.;/ l ,[____], Its a Jeep thing,

I'm not sure what you mean by running as admin. I'm guessing it means logging out as me and logging in as the admin(?). Sorry, but I've never done that before so I'm a bit confused. The other thing I don't understand is why that would make a difference. I know just enough to get by and so I don't know why that would work but I'm not going to argue with that either.
-
To run as admin, Right-Click on the application shortcut and choose Run as Administrator.
-
Maybe the driver file you downloaded got corrupted. try uninstalling the driver and reloading from a fresh download.

If possible try your DX2 on another computer running a different version of Windows. This will let you know if it's a driver or hardware problem.

-
The only PC I have runs Vista. If I had an XP computer, I would have tried it long ago.
But to give you an idea of how infrequently I change PC's, my last one had Windows ME on it -
When I get a chance later this week I'll see if my DX2 works on my Vista system. Out of curiosity are you hooking it up directly or through a powered hub?
-
It's hooked up directly to the PC. I don't have enough things hooked up to it that would cause me to run out of USB ports.
I just got through with ADS Tech's support a couple hours ago and we went through it step-by-step and they don't think I've done anything wrong with my set up (or else they don't want to tell me they think I did something wrong). The last thing suggested was to try it on an XP machine- which I don't have- to see if maybe the box itself is the issue. So I may have to try that; I just haven't so far because I don't own one. -
Just joined the forum looking for the same information, how to get my DVD Xpress DX2 Capture Wizard to work with Vista Premium. I downloaded the beta version of CapWiz, Vista drivers (32 bit x86) and instructions. No luck.
I've tried over and over, installing-uninstalling with the same results. Since you've already spoken with ADS Tech's support and are no better off, I don't feel so stupid. Good luck! :x Dumb is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time. I'm talking about myself. -
I finally tried my DX2 box on my Vista desktop. I downloaded the newest version of CapWiz for Vista and installed. Then I downloaded the latest Vista driver and installed as instructed. Rebooted and captured without a problem.
-
Well then I don't know what I'm doing wrong because I've done the same thing several times and nothing worked for me. I even made sure to reboot after each of those steps and it still crashed. Frustrating because the only use I had for it was for capturing; I have Movie Edit Pro for the editing. Bought it at a CompUSA going out of business sale (the stores, not the website). I know this doesn't want to capture with anything other than Capwiz or one of the Ulead versions but if I could save as an MPEG file then I can edit with MEP11.

"Well then I don't know what I'm doing wrong"
It may not be something you did. It may be a hardware problem. Did you install any older drivers before installing the newer driver? If you did maybe the old driver is causing you problems. Do you see any errors in device manager? -
No, I made sure that there weren't any drivers downloaded from the CD that came with the DX2 since those were written for XP.

i am a novice when it comes to computers.i bought the dx2 yesterday and got a wrong driver message.after clicking no on the update driver box,i thought all was well when i tried to preview and got a bsod and a restart.what i ended up doing was going to http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/152718 scroll down to Download links and click 709 vista driver.exe i saved it to my desktop.unzip it and you get a vista x86 and vista x64 file, an installation file and a remsvc registry entry.i still had capwiz and showbiz installed when i followed the two sets of instructions.the only thing different that i did was that in th second set of instructions i did not proceed to step 7. i plugged in the usb cable, windows detected the new device and located and installed the new driver on its own.after a tense moment i started the vcr and started previewing and recording w/o a hitch.i have a hp pavillion dv6000 laptop, preloaded vista 32 home premium,no sound card, integrated intel graphics, amd tk-55,1 gb, in other words a plain jane.i also bought the vcr/dvd player at walmart for 60 bucks.unfortunately the svideo output only works when the dvd player is doing the playback,so i used the rca jacks.hope this helps,i've gotten so much help from forums.if you have any ? i'll try to answer them.

I Installed my DX2 on my new laptop running Vista Home Premium. The only problem I have seen is a error message about wrong driver when I start CapWiz. I just ignore the error and everything works fine.
-
This is a update to my DX2 on my new laptop running Vista. Everything seemed to be working ok while I was capturing. Video look good; sound was ok so I thought everthing was fine. I finally got to watch some of my captures tonight. About 10 minutes into my videos I lost sound. This happened with every capture I did on my Vista Laptop. I tried uninstalling the AdsTech drivers and software and re downloading and installing but it didn't help. I'll have to try it on my desktop again to see if I get the same results.

I can't get the Capwiz to install. Gives me the message: "Could not initialize installation. ~GLC1034.TMP The system cannot find the file specified."
I can't ever recall deleting a file by that name. That's not to say it couldn't have happened but I really don't think I did. Anyway, anyone have any insight into this whether it relates to my initial problem or just the file by itself? -
I have This Same Problem the Software and drivers work perfectly with XP home but on my vista home premium OEM toshiba laptop which, i cant get XP on, the Vista Specific Drivers dont work and i get BSOD if i try to use the program apparently the vista drivers are still in beta so i say give it some time for the final version drivers to be put up for download
-
The Vista drivers are almost a year old. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for updated drivers.
-
I can't speak for the others in this posting but I think my problem is the ~GLC1034.TMP file is missing. Ok, maybe I'm hoping that's the problem. Anyway, I've tried to Google it and haven't found much that can help me. While I can't rule out that I NEVER deleted it, I really don't think I did. At the very least, having this file back (from where ever it is) would get me further along in this process. And who knows, maybe it would cure the BAD POOL HEADER also. I'm not smart enough to know if the two are connected but am hoping it's the case.
-
~GLC1034.TMP must be a file created when you run the install program. I searched and didn't find any file by that name on my system.
-
Thats it? No more replies? Am I to assume that we never got this worked out? Because I bought my Dx2 about 3mo ago and it has worked beautifuly on my XP-pro desktop...
However... my Alienware m15x laptop is getting the BSOD... I've tried everything and I've had the exact same experiences as everyone else here... please tell me that someone has figured this out... or did I just purchase another piece of junk?
