    Thanks for the link.

Seems I don't have the Windowsxp registry entries thats need to make it region free.

Wonder if it's because I've just updated to the patch, maybe cyberlink have done something to counter act the region free hack in this patch.

that link states the registry entry is not present until you make the first region code change, then it creates itself showing 4 remaining changes..

Thanks for the link and the information supplied works 100%. (Tried and tested myself)

I just tried the registry hack and change the remaining value from 4 changes left to 9 changes and loaded up PowerDVD, it states 9 changes remaining.

Couldn't have timed it better cos I just ordered Prison Break on Blu Ray only today from the states (Region A). Not out yet here in the UK.

The region bypass no longer works for the latest update for PowerDVD.

I have a problem playing one of my HD-DVD's and had to update to version 7.3 to play the HD-DVD. It looks like Cyberlink has clocked on and the registry bypass for Blu Ray no longer works with the latest update.

Does anyone have any info on the region hack for version 7.3.

Would backing up the registry be of any help and restore it every time region change is made and gets to 1 change left.

To keep it working .What you should done make sure that the program never talks to the internet. Then it doesnt matter what patch they bring out to stop you doing this that and the other.Im running version 7.3 the first
version.Which has never touched the internet and runs fine ( runs all my hddvds with no problems ) .

This is just suggestion,if you keep all your video software on a seperate drive ie caddy.so that you can swap between them. One for video, one for games, one for tv and one for what ever.Or if you dont want to any of that.
Then make a new fresh copy of windows. Then clone the drive to dvd or another hard drive. Then as your going alone
if you dont like any of the updates then you can just copy back the the installation you did on the dvd or hard drive.

If you wanted to block a program from accessing the internet, you can probably do that with a software firewall. I know Comodo has settings to block that and it always seems to ask if I want to let a program 'phone home'. Although a well behaved program shouldn't be accessing the internet, especially if you are able to turn updates off. I know that's a PITA, but if it works.....

With the original version of PowerDVD I had problems playing one of the HD-DVD I recently purchased. The only solution was to update to the latest version which solved the playback problem but also fixed the region bypass situation. I actually manually downloaded the update from the cyberlink website, I never let softwares connect to the internet automatically and always prevent this option.

I have the last update saved somewhere on my hard drive, its just a matter of uninstalling this version and installing the previous one back on which does work with the region bypass.

I usually don't update any software to the latest version unless im having problems as was for this case.

Or I can just wait until someone finds a solution to the latest update. Its just a matter of time.

The other problem is that sometimes PowerDVD tends to force you to upgrade to a later version or refuses the play.

When I bought my first Blu Ray disc (War), the original version of PowerDVD I had refused to play the disc unless I updated to the latest version (at the time). Doing so, I managed to play the disc.
