I hope I put this in the right place. I am useing ConvertXToDVD. for my movies but no matter where I put the settings it converts in full screen. The original is widescreen and I would like to keep it that but even after makeing the changes in my settings it still is not working. Thank you.

if you play the vid on the computer is it wide or full after the conversion? the tv setting i usually use is "automatic" in convertx. it takes care of wide or full by itself that way and i've never had it make a mistake.

it may be doing the video in 16x9 encoded as 4:3, but that still is widescreen, it just has hard encoded black bars top and bottom. i don't think you can get rid of that in convertx.

Extending on aedipuss'es post, try either one of these settings from the Options menu:

TV Format tab -> TV Screen -> "16:9 (Widescreen)"
    or
TV Format tab -> TV Screen -> "Automatic"

Assuming your source is indeed 16:9, I can't see why it wouldn't work, otherwise tell us a bit more about your source in case there's something else we missed.
I hate VHS. I always did.
