Hey all, I purchased a Lite-On DH-401S08 Blu-Ray player and installed it in my HTPC. I installed Power DVD Ultra. Whenever I try to play a movie (Have tried Apocalypto and Casino Royale) it freezes up on me. It will play for about 5-15 minutes, then stalls. I then installed it in my workstation and it works fine.

My HTPC is running Vista Ultimate, and it's a lean machine as far as installed software goes. The only thing I have installed other than PDVD is AC3 filter, Speedfan, and Divx. It has all available updates, and I have installed the latest video and chipset drivers for my mobo. This is all on a newly formatted HDD. Specs are as follows:

Abit AN-M2 (Geforce 7025/630a) Mobo, AMD 6000 (3 ghz) Dual Core CPU, 2 GB of Ram, 160 GB HDD, 8500GT video card. It is hooked up to a 55" Mitsubishi 1080i rear projection using component outputs, audio thru optical SPDIF.

I thought at first it may be a heat problem, but it is running about 36 deg Celsius, and the CPU usage is running at about 30-35% when it is actually playing.I have the latest Nvidia video drivers installed (169.25). When it locks up, the temp of the GPU shows 55 Celsius, up from original idle temp of 50 Celsius. Everything is housed in a mid tower Silverstone case. Right now, the sides are off of it and all the fans are turned up.

For testing purposes it is temporarily hooked up to a 17" monitor via vga, set at 1024x768. My Mitsubishi rear projection does not do 720p. It is about 4 years old, and only does 1080i, 480p and 480i

Any suggestions as to what may be wrong would be sincerely appreciated. I only have about a week before the time runs out for me to return it, however I really want to keep it. I have spent hours reading and googling the web for answers, but alas, nothing seems to work for me.

    Thanks

Does it ONLY freezes when you play blu-ray using PowerDVD? Try play a dvd using the blu-ray player using PowerDVD and see if it freezes.

It is only when I play Blu-Ray. I have found several threads on avs and cdfreaks that indicate it may be a problem with the sb630a Nvidia chipsets sata controller. I am going to try installing a pci sata controller and see if that fixes the problem.

Someone at a different forum gave me this link: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=13010867&postcount=269 . It seems that it was a hardware problem. Changing the sata controller to AHCI mode fixed the problem!!
