Hey everyone. Before, I was using Windows98SE with VirtualDub 1.8, capture card is a All in Wonder Pro with the BT829 chipset, bought the card back in 1998. I was able to capture in resolutions all the way up to 720x480 with a host of codecs. Just the other day I upgraded to WindowsXP. VirtualDub still recognizes the codecs I was using before and it still lets me capture and all...but, I cannot get a vertical resolution over 288 now. I can increase the Horizontal resolution all the way up to 720. Why can I not go up to 720x480 like before. MMC from ATI is not supported but I loaded it anyway, all the way up to version 7.5 but still did not change the resolution options for vertical in VirtualDub. I can capture videos using all the old codecs except ATI VCRxx now. No big deal, but I definitely want to be able to capture at higher resolutions with all the other codecs. FYI, the drivers are showing up as WDM based, and another thing when I go in to change the format or source in VirtualDub, it is all different now. And I am only able to capture in UYVY. The ability to change the Tint and Color are gone and now replaced with what appears to be some kind of crappy web camera type interface apparently implanted in WindowsXP. I do have the videowrapper, the most recent which is why I am even able to see the ATI card at all probably. Any suggestions? And how stupid can ATI get, pumping out cards with no MMC capability for WindowsXP? What do I need to do to correct the resolution limitations.

We are a bunch of people trying to figure all this out right now... where did you find the MMC 7.5? I can't find it!
Thanx/

I va e bhad exactly the same problem with my AIW 128. The problem is that ATI intheir infinite stupidity have moved away from VFW capture support on all the new drivers, thereby cutting your capture resolution.
The only solution I have found is to dual boot with 98SE with the older better drivers which enable higher resolution capture. Of course you're back to the file size limit again, but that's the price you pay -
I have WINXP and an ATI AIW radeon and capture at any resolution I want, have been able to since the day I installed XP. Was your install a clean install or an upgrade? Also, I have seen fixes and work arounds here for this problem but you will have to search for them.
-
Well I upgraded from Win98SE, I wonder how you are able to capture at any resolution. Man I sure wish there was a solution to this, am I doomed to 352x240 resolution until ATI does something. Any idea where I might search to correct this, do I have to go into the registry?

For what it's worth, I too use the AIW128 and did a clean install of XP, and have no problems capturing up to 720x480. Personally, I think you should never let Microsoft "upgrade" Windows for you!
-
Mine was also a clean install, you may want to follow the guide here to remove all ati drivers completely and try to reinstall.

DirectX 8.1 is a key to many things and included in XP... so Install that one, the Video Capture update which you had to install beside in 8.0 in now included so just download and install the 8.1...
Then.. install the MMC 7.5 too...Thanx/

Hi,
does anyone have a working link to MMC7.5 ???
EDIT: Found one.. ftp://ftp.kredit.sk/PEC/ati/
thanks,

Well, I guess I could do a clean install of WindowsXP. However, it states that this is an upgrade version, even on the Disk and Box. Does that mean that if I format my disk to NTFS that the upgrade wont work, especially since it does not see a windows operating system anymore. One other thing, I am not using the AIW128 Pro. I am using the original All in Wonder Pro purchased in 1998. Would that make a difference, by the way I do have directx 8.1 on the system, I also tried removing the WDM capture device in Multimedia and then deleting the card and tried the WIN2k Drivers, nothing seemed to wrong...another thing, this Damned XP keeps trying to stick that funky WDM32 driver back on me when the card gets detected.

Gladiator,
I have the same card (AIW Pro 8Mb) / same problem, so I'll let you know if I can get tit working. I'm running W2K.
cheers,

I got everything working on W2k... i have posted a guide including all the links you need to download stuff in the HOW TO/USER GUIDEs forum... with an explanation how I got everything going. Please let me know if I have missed something.
Thanx/

I don't know about Windows XP but I have Windows 2000, and at first Virtual Dub wouldn't recognize my AIW 128 pro, but I found this on the Virtual Dub old news web pages. I did exactly what it said and everything works beautifully. Hope this helps... (the formating may messed up so here is the URL http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_news_old.html )

And now, the meat: how to get VFW capture working with ATI MMC 7.1 under Windows 2000. (Usual disclaimers apply: experts only, your fault and not mine if anything goes wrong.)
First, install DirectX 8.0a, the DirectX 8 DV update, and Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. SP2 is mandatory, because it includes a file that you may not have. Once you have it installed, check for a file called \WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386\vfwwdm32.dll. Copy it to \WINNT\System32\vfwwdm32.dll, if a file by that name doesn't already exist there.
Next, open up Registry Editor (regedit.exe), and drill down to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\MediaResources\msvideo
Create a key called MSVideo.VFWWDM, and in it, create the following entries:
Name ----------------------Type---------------Data
Description----------------REG_SZ-----------Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32)
Driver-----------------------REG_SZ-----------vfwwdm32.dll
The Microsoft VFWWDM wrapper should now appear as a usable capture device in VFW-based capture programs.

Okay everyone!!!
I just loade WINDOWSXP fresh install. Now then, what do I have to download from ATI for the All in Wonder Pro 4MB 1997 BT829 version to work under WindowsXP. What MMC should I download and use. What should I remove from the registry? What should I remove from control panel under video legacy codecs, this is a new install, I do not want to F!*$&% it up. What should be the exact procedures...it like a ******* operation with Brain Surgeons to do this...the registry and deleting and adding. I need exact steps, need the info, throw me a feakinnn bone. -
I can't guarantee this will work since you are using an older card than me, but all I had to do was the following:
Install the latest version of DirectX and any service packs from Microsoft
Install the most recent recommended driver posted on the ATI site
That's all. WinXP should have detected the card and installed a number of things by default. They seem to work fine on my system. I do not even install MMC (and 7.5 is an alpha or beta version if it is legitimate at all, or it would be posted on ATI's website), and I don't do anything to the registry.
Good luck. -
Well,
I installed DX8.1 and MMC7.5 (after disabling HW check).
When launching the TV app it tries to do the channel tune and locks up..
I had removed MMV7.0 after installing DX8.1, during the remove it asks if you want to remove your personal settings, I did !! I would not advise doing this.
I am not sure that MMC7.5 will work with an AIW Pro (4 or 8Mb)
Either way, I still can't capture above 288 Vertical in Vdub..
I'll keep trying.

OK..
I actually managed to speak to 2 people at ATI !!!!!!!!!!
The first was non-technical and kept asking me what driver I had installed.
So I told her the number and told her it was the latest available on the website. She insisted that she had a newer one and took my address to send it to me.
The second was in technical support in Ireland and was also non-technical by the sound of it. After giving him a detailed account of the problem including that I was running Win2000, the board has it's own IRQ etc etc, he checked the knowledge base, pointed me to a page about re-installing web TV for Windows 98 and said "OK bye"..
So, we'll see what arrives in the post...
