Hi folks, new user here. I have been successfully using Windows Media Encoder to convert DVD clips to WMV format to watch on my Pocket PC.

    The process is like this:
DVD Shrink --> VOB2MPG --> WM Encoder --> WMV for Pocket PC

Things were working great until I installed some new codecs and conversion tools (ffdshow, SUPER, Batch FLV Converter, etc.). Now WM Encoder just hangs when I try to covert an .mpg file. I uninstalled all of the new tools and new codecs but I WM Encoder still hangs.

I have narrowed it down to an audio problem. WM Encoder only hangs if the mpg file has an audio track. If an mpg file does not have any audio then all is well. I think the audio produced by DVD Shrink --> VOB2MPG is in AC3 format. So maybe WM Encoder is having trouble with AC3 format.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

What dvd decoder(like powerdvd, windvd, codec pack, etc) did you have before you installed ffdshow? Maybe try reinstall it if you remember what it was then. But wme and wmm are very buggy with mpeg2,ac3 sources, you need to find a decoder that works and then never install anything else. .

Or maybe time to try something else, I use AutoMKV for DVD to WMV.

Baldrick, before I installed ffdshow I was using WinDVD. I reinstalled WinDVD but that did not fix the problem. I used GraphEdit to see what was being used to decode the mpg file. GraphEdit shows that Intervideo filters are currently being used.
