I have a MP4 file that I want to put on a DVD, but, everything I try has failed.
If I use NERO I get a message that the file won't load
If I use TMPGE (to make a MPEG 1 to covert to a DVD) the conversion stopes at about the 75% mark.
If I use EO Video the convertion to MPEG 1 takes place, but, I get an warring that the audio stoped before the video. And that the resulting video is out of sinc with the audio
The file was orginally downloaded from the internet, but, was recoded by me using Nero Recode because the orginal file would not play on any other application.
Why the problem?
Is there a fix?

Have you tried ConvertXtoDVD or DVD Flick or FAVC ?

I might also add that there's no need to go to MPEG1.
The applications Baldrick listed can be used to go directly to MPEG2, which is DVD standard. MPEG1 will have to be converted again to MPEG2 for authoring and burning.
Over conversion will hurt your quality and should be avoided. -
I might also add that there's no need to go to MPEG1...
Never heard of them.
Which would you use to convert a MP4 video encoded to run on an I pod in to a DVD / MPEG video.
Thanks. -
I've never used any of them as I prefer the Mainconcept encoder, but I've read of many folks getting real good results out of any of them.
Pick one whose GUI suites your fancy.
ConvertXToDVD seems like it might be a bit more flexible. The other two are free so how can you go wrong?
There are a myriad of encoders in the Tools section that will do just the encode work for you if you want to author manually.
The solutions listed above are "one click" wonders. -
ConvertX2DVD will make a DVD structure and optionally burn the disc too. You could try the imTOO MPEG Encoder as well. Their trial version will only convert 5 minutes, but it may be enough to tell you that it works and then you decide to buy it or not.
BTW, DVDs can contain MPEG-1 (the files do NOT necessarily need to be MPEG-2 although it is better quality generally).

True, MPEG-1 works fine for DVDs, just the audio needs to be at a 48Khz sample rate instead of the more common 44.1Khz used for MPEG-1/VCD formats. But MPEG-1 is also a lower quality than MPEG-2. It depends on the quality of your MP4, but I wouldn't use MPEG-1.
If you wanted a smaller filesize with MPEG-2, there is always MPEG-2, half D1 format. Look to upper left on this page for 'WHAT IS' DVD for info on that format.
