I would like to capture each portion of this flash presentation to my computer and convert it to video to make a DVD out of it (there is no copyright on this)

Can someone tell me how to do this?

  4. The .swf file d/l to my Opera browser cache and I could play it from there. I'm sure the same would happen with IE, Netscape or Firefox. So, capturing doesn;t seem like it would be necessary.
Check you browser cache by date and then file type.

Not sure of the best way to convert to video as I've never tried. Others, I'm sure can help with that.

Thanks! I hadn't thought about the cache, I'll clear all my cache out and then go to the video page to make it easier to find..

This isnīt just 1 swf file.
The menu.swf is charging every part of the file separately.
Easiest way: click on every link of the menu flash, then, when this part is completly loaded: check in your Temporal Internet folder for the new swf file. menu.swf, one is called 861_2.swf etc.
Copy each file from the temp Internetfolder to a folder of your choice.
Until you have all swf files, all instances of the presentation.
After that itīs your choice how to capture these swf files to video.

got it, thank you for the help. I do notice that in between segments it has to load each one which is probably when it's downloading to the cache. I should have thought of that! Thanks =)

You can also download the file one by one:
    http://www.3rdear.com/861info/861_1.swf
    http://www.3rdear.com/861info/861_2.swf
    http://www.3rdear.com/861info/861_3.swf
    http://www.3rdear.com/861info/menu.swf
    etc.

Havenīt checked all files, but you simply figure this out.

You can try a program called Sothink SWF Decompiler. You can download the program called SWF Catcher for free as a seperate download or bundled with the demo.

    http://www.sothink.com/product/flashdecompiler/

    http://www.sothink.com/product/swfcatcher/ie/index.php

    http://www.sothink.com/product/swfcatcher/firefox/index.php

SWF Catcher will find the SWF files on a webpage and download them for you.

I've been messing around with this bytescout swf to video program and it's pretty much junk. The encoder hangs and has all these issues. So I'm going to try one of the other programs now.... Has anyone here successfully converted an swf to avi?

  16. You can try Wondershare Flash to video converter (not a sales plug).

My brother tells me he's used it in the past with good sucess.

I'm surprised Super didn't work, though not terribly surprised.

Flashants is great for swf conversion. Also try Super, as previously mentioned. CamStudio is pretty good, too.

I've tried a whole lot of programs trying to convert SWF to AVI and I haven't found one that will do it although all of them say they will.

The only way that I think I was able to do it was with a screen capture program which is not the same as converting to AVI.

A SWF file is usually made up of thousands of jpeg or bitmap images and an MP3 file. It could be made up of a bunch of pieces like lips, eyes, arms etc and a script telling the pieces what to do at a certain time. Pretty hard for a program to make an AVI out of something like that.
