Some people are telling me that
Verbatim disks are made by Taiyo Yuden.
    True or False ????????

Somehow, I don't want to believe them.

You can, or at least could, buy Verbatims in Europe with TY media codes.

Yes, you can get Verbatim that use the Taiyo Yuden dye in the UK at least for me. I buy my Verbatim dvds from SVP and they are definitely the ones with the TY code:

  5. I stand corrected! The Verbatims here (Vancouver) are made in Taiwan, Singapore, and most recently India. I haven't bought the latter and do not know what their code is. How are the TY-Verbatims labeled?

The Verbatims I have are labeled MCC 03RG20 ....
    (purchased from Best Buy)

The TYs are labeled TYG02 (purchased online)

    (I'm in the USA)

None of the Verbatims that I have purchased in the past few years have
    had the TY label.

Look at the made in sticker -
    Made in Japan = TY
Made in Singapore = MCC's own plant own dye
Made in Taiwan = MCC code, made by CMC with CMC dye under Verbatim supervision and guidelines
Made in India = put the package down and walk away. If you're willing to purchase these, grab what ever brand is cheaper. If these give you great results, you're wasting money, buy what ever is cheaper.

"Made in Japan" discs, sold in Europe, under Verbatim brand, are Taiyo Yuden manufactured with a TY ID.

    You're in the USA. No.

We've had this discussion just a few weeks ago about MII Verbatim. I have used them and they are fine. The general consensus is that they are OK, but there are always people like you who disagree. Have you even used these discs?
    I have.

Note that at this time the only media we know of that is MII by Verbatim is their 2.4x DVD+R DL discs and nothing else.

There are always people like you If you read my post, I stated -
If these work for you, you are wasting your money. There are many burners that burn cheap media just fine. Mine included. Since I get good results out of CMC media, and even Pleomax, I'm not wasting my money on TY media for everyday use.

Yes I have. Verbatim Made in India DVD+R 16x. These are made at the Moser Plant. Do a forum search here on my name and Moser Baer or MBI, this is OLD information. Here's some cdfreaks links for you too.

I have this guy in my face saying that Verbatim is made by TY.

The guy in your face is a dumbass.

Verbatim-branded Mitsubishi media is manufactured by Mitsubishi (who also owns Verbatim) in one of three plants, that are owned by other manufacturers. MCC makes it's media on-site at CMC (Taiwan), Prodisc (Taiwan) and Moser Baer (India). These are not CMC/Prodisc/MBI discs, but MCC discs made on CMC/MBI/Prodisc real estate. The discs are all made to the same specs, using the same spec materials. There is no difference in quality between geographic location or age. (Verbatim Europe has even responded to such claims by spot-testing the media from various locations against one another and coming to no perceived differences.)

Verbatim Europe chose to also outsource TY media in the more elite brands in smaller spindles. The Pearl 25-packs, for example, which also command a premium price.

Very simple way to prove, or disprove it: Get DVD Identifier and it well tell you the media code.
Burning apps may report this as well.

It's possible they ARE imported from Japan, so if they do check out, go for them.
