I know that stuff can be hidden from you in the Add/Remove programs dialog, but it's easy to make them appear by editing the sysoc.inf file.
I can't find this file in Vista. Googling the interwebs has shown that it doesn't exist in Vista...
Unfortunately, nobody seems to know what replaced it or how to make these hidden apps show up (from what I've found anyway).
Anybody here know how to do this in Vista?
Also, when disabling start up crap in msconfig, it will always tell you to reboot and when you do the first thing you get is a dialog telling you that stuff has been disabled. In pre-Vista Windows you could check a box in this dialog to keep Windows from showing it to you everytime you boot.
This is not the case in Vista.
Every time I boot it pops up one of those little yellow balloons from the task bar telling me Windows has disabled some apps and leaves an icon by the clock.
How can I make it stop doing that?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
TIA!

If you mean hidden windows features, try this:
With the default Category Control Panel:
Head to Start
Select Control Panel
Select Programs
Select Programs and Features
Select Turn Windows features on or off (on the left side)
Select the Continue button (if UAC is active)
Check or Uncheck needed/unneeded Windows features
Select the Ok buttonGoogle is your Friend -
Original poster, in Windows XP to disable balloon tips you would do this, it may work with Vista:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Current Version \ Explorer \ Advanced
Double click on EnableBalloonTips > Value data should have a value of 0.
If EnableBalloonTips is not there create it by right-clicking on Advanced >
New > DWORD value and call it EnableBalloonTips with a Value data of 0.
SYSOC.INF in Vista has been replaced in Vista with Control Panel > Programs and Features menu > Turn Windows Features on or off
However, components are NOT uninstalled and are still there, just turned off.
