You can encode a video to the FLV format (using the On2 vp6 codec) from inside VirtualDub.

1 - You open your source .AVI file inside virtualDub, then:
    2 - Press Ctrl+P
3 - Scroll down to where you see the three codecs.. VP60; VP61; or VP62, and choose whatever
one you want to encode with.

From there, its up to you to figure out what settings to encode with to produce the level of
quality in your FLV videos. Best thing you can do is experiment.

Just remember, though, that the On2 VP6 is an RIFF (avi container) format video and not the
usual Sorenson RIFF container video format. And if you are planning to use this with youtube,
then you should be warned that youtube will re-encode that video because it will need
to be in the Sorenson format and not an RIFF avi format. Otherwise, have fun!

You need to encode with vp62 codec. In virtualdub, encode to avi using the flip vertical filter(the video needs to be upside down), vp62 and mp3 audio. Use Nic's FourCC changer which comes with his version of the xvid codec (it is also available separately, just google for it) to change the four cc to VP6F. Load the avi in AviDemux. Leave video and audio at the default copy. Change format to FLV. Save as your choice.flv . AviDemux will remux to flv container, there is no encoding involved.

  5. You don't need a GUI to encode a flv file using the VP6 codec.

Follow Vhelp's instructions, Feb 03, 2008, using virtualdub after installing the VP6 codec and installing ffmpeg. Don't forget to flip the video with the virtualdub filter "flip vertically". Specify your bit rate and other variables then save as an avi. You will get the best quality if you use two passes with the VP6 codec.

Create and save your audio as an mp3 file (download and use "FLV Extract" to retrieve the mp3 from another flv file if necessary). Move your video avi, audio mp3 and a copy of ffmpeg.exe to an empty folder. Create a bat file in the folder with the contents: ffmpeg -i "example.avi" -vcodec copy -i "example.mp3" -acodec copy "example.flv" where example represents the name of your video and audio files. Run the bat file to create your target flv file. Check out your new flv with virtualdub 1.8.8 or later version modified to open flv files or use some other flv player.

The method given here will produce significantly better quality results than flv transcoders such as WinFF and Avidemux. Also, because you use virtualdub to author your video, you get to select among all it's filters to enhance the video even further.

    With Mencoder:

Windows users can use -xvfwopts codec=vp6vfw.dll:compdata=dialog to have the codec dialog display before encoding starts.

  7. Other vp6/flv GUI methods are OnFlix Pro, Sorensen Squeeze, Adobe Media Encoder. They give more options, but they cost $

    Why the requirement for vp6/flv?

Ummm. Why is everyone replying to a thread that is over 1 year old? I'm sure the op has solved his/her problem by now.

The question is a year old but interest in the solution may be current to many. It was to me.

Well I can admire wanting to share some of your knowledge. It's good to see that you are wanting to participate in the vh community and give some help back.

Why not use some of that knowledge to answer some of the more recent questions?

I usually check the main page to see if there is anything that I can help with.
