    Hey everyone,

I seem to have a problem with my Toshiba DVD Recorder RDXS34 model. I have an HD box that the cable company provided which is run through TIVO. Since the cable is connected to that box, the Toshiba DVD Recorder does not have cable connected to it. Now I notice when I use the recorder that any DVD will play in it, but none of my inputs such as a DVD/VCR player are not being recognized. I even wanted to dub sound to a silent movie and my computer connected from a headphone jack in with audio cables is not being recognized by the recorder. The only way these inputs are being recognized is when I push the TIMESLIP button which interprets these inputs as live TV and is recording them like a TV program. And every time it does this, it is like 20 seconds behind of what is being shown from the input DVD/VCR player.

So my question is ... can you shut the TV Guide programming off so that the recorder can simply function as it is suppose to normally or is there something I can do to fix this issue. Or do you think there is simply something wrong with the player.

I know everyone is getting ready for the Super Bowl so I'm sorry to burden you with this issue, but would appreciate any suggestions when someone gets the chance.

I hope this all makes sense and look forward to hearing from anyone, because I'm about ready to pull my hair out.

    Thanks,
    DJL

The unit IS intended to be used with the TV Guide, so I dont know what you mean by "so that the recorder can simply function as it is suppose to normally".

Have you ever used it normally with the cable going directly into it so it can record shows off of it? I have a RDXS34
( two of them actually ), but never tried using them solely for recording with the Inputs, as it seems you seem to be doing for some reason. I would think you should be able to do that though, so I'm not sure whats going on. I do use INPUT 2 (front connecters) for my xbox and that works fine whether I'm just playing through it or recording the play action. Try hooking it up with the cable going directly into it (NO BOX) if you haven't already and see if it works normally as a recorder. If it does then try hooking something to one of the lnputs to see if they work. If they dont, I'd say there's something wrong with the unit.

Since I dont have it setup the same as you do I cant address your issues directly but I hope this helps at least some.

The TV guide feature can't be turned off. That is possibly the most annoying thing about this unit. The way to record from an input is go into the TV guide menu, go to the "schedule recording" tab and hit "menu" twice. This will allow you to schedule a manual recording using the appropriate input. I have satellite hooked up through RCA's and this is how I record shows through mine.
