    Hi all,

Can any body suggest some AVISynth (or VDub) filters and settings to try and recover more natural colors from this clip?

It's part of an 8mm film capture that was obviously shot in low light and very red.

I've got very bad eyesight wise with color, so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Al

Edit - Here is a few seconds of uncompressed AVI if it helps. It's been IVTC'd back to 16.666 fps

Try the Colormill filter with VD: colormill2.1.1.zip or other VD filters from here: http://www.thedeemon.com/VirtualDubFilters/ It's a bit complicated, but it has just about all the color corrections in one filter.

I usually start with the VD 'levels' filters and see if you can improve the overall look. The white levels are blown out, but there is some detail left there.

Then try a simple restoration filter: http://www.thedeemon.com/cgi/getfilter?id=53
Or try a RGB filter to adjust the color balance: http://www.thedeemon.com/cgi/getfilter?id=19

This is just with RGB adjustments to drop the red down a bit, then some blue and green adjustments. You should be able to do more with it with a little experimenting:

I don't think you'll be able to do much with the digital file. Even a proc amp on the analog signal would have been limited. The white balance is simply too far off, and there's no easy way to correct it.
