ClamWin Free Antivirus
I've never heard of ClamWin Free Antivirus before. I saw a recommendation for it in a PCworld.com article and was wondering if anyone here has tired it and what they thought of it.

According to several websites that specialize in testing antivirus software, Clamwin exhibits poor detection capability and offers no real-time scanner. Along with those negatives, Clamwin A/V (on my computer) takes almost 30 minutes to scan about 6GB. With other popular and better antivirus applications, the same scan never takes more than 13 minutes.
If you are looking for a solid and free antivirus program with real-time protection and frequent updates, get either:
(1) Avira Classic,
(2) Avast Standard Home Edition,
-or-
(3) AVG Free.
All three offer substantially better detection rates and more features than Clamwin. If you still want to try Clamwin, download instead the free avtivirus program Moon Secure Antivirus from Softpedia.com or Sourceforge.com. It uses the Clamwin engine and offers real-time protection. How good it really is is anybody's guess, as the program is relatively new. -
I put ClamWin on a computer I rebuilt for my wife for her email, etc. Been on for 2 months. Yeah, it's very slow. OTOH, it gives the expected false alarms (like malware definitions from using Panda activescan, and similar). So it's doing something anyway.
Pull! Bang! Darn!
