Hello everyone!
I’ve been using mencoder for about a week now and love it! However there is one issue that I just can’t seem to solve during a blood sweat and tear search the past 3 days. For some reason, mencoder is defaulting to 2 channel ac3 when 6 channel (5.1) is desired for encoding movies.
Here is my skinny, I’ve tried two different scenarios as follows.
mencoder dvd://1 -dvd-device /archives/dvds/OFFICE_SPACE/ -alang English -oac alsa9 surround51 -channels 6 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=2526 -o "/dev/null"
mencoder dvd://1 -dvd-device /archives/dvds/OFFICE_SPACE/ -alang English -channels 6 -oac copy -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=2526 -o "/dev/null"
I get the same results for both as follows. Mencoder/mplayer sees both audio streams. When I tried a simple -oac copy I get 2 channels ac3, when I try to force it with -channels 6 it states Unimplemented resampler for mode 0xA -> 6 channels conversion - Contact MPlayer developers! I hope this is something stupid. Did I miss something during compilation?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dolby Digital 5.1 is a must for me. If I can't get this to work, I guess I will have to go back to windoz and AutoGK.

Addition:
I've also tried to even specify the ID belonging to the 5.1 stream in this case was 129 with -aid. Similar out put which is still 2 channels.
