My task is to transmit Full HD, or 1920 x 1080 50 Hz HD video transmission over LAN.

What is the bitrate and what line bandwidth do I need?

  2. Uncompressed RGB? 1920 x 1080 x 3 x 50 ~= 311 MB/sec ~= 2.5 Gb/sec. There is also some overhead for transmission protocols.

Thanks. It will be MPEG2 compressed. What than is the bitrate / bandwidth?

Whatever the max bitrate of your MPEG2 data is plus some overhead. You're probably looking at ~30 Mb/sec. 100 Mb/sec ethernet should be fine if there's not a lot of other traffic.

Thanks. 30 Mb/s means Mega Bits, or Mega Bytes?

    little b = bits, big B = Bytes.
