    hi
i always burn 16:9 videos and 4:3 on DVDs,
but when i play them i have no problems with 4:3 videos, but the 16:9 videos i can only play them on VLC-Player where i can change the aspect-ratio (video-->aspect-ratio-->16:9) then the video looks fine, but on Windows Media Player or InterVideo WinDVD the videos looks squeezed. so on PC i have no problem i always use VLC-Player. but on my standalone dvd-player there is no option to change the aspect-ratio, is there any dvd-player that provide this option?
what is this feature called if i want to buy a new dvd-player?

btw 1-i use DVDAuthorGUI to author dvds 2-the source of the videos are my Humax pvr.[/img]

It's an authoring issue. Moving you. Can you set 16:9 in dvdauthorgui? If not then you might have to change the mpeg video to 16:9 with for example DVDPatcher and then author with dvdauthorgui.

there no options on dvdauthorgui for aspect-ratio. but i just tried adding only one 16:9 video then i authot it, the .vob files looks fine on all progarms. but i want several videos (4:3 and 16:9) on the same dvd. what should i do?

i opened the .M2V files on DVDPatcher, it reads (4:3) for 4:3 videoes and (16:9) for the 16:9 videos, so does it realy going to help if i author again? (it takes very long time to author (35+ minutes) off my pc, thats why i am asking before trying again)

    many thanks

From memory, the DVD specs don't allow different aspect ratios within a single Title Set (VTS group) which I think might be your problem. Is there an option in DVDauthourgui to force each video into a separate VTS (like VTS_01_01+VTS_01_02 for first track, and VTS_02_01+VTS_02_02 for second) rather than having them both merged into a single stream??

    Hi.
    Following on from Trev's idea.
Create the 4:3 dvd ready to burn. Create for as many titles as you need.
Create the 16:9 ready to burn. Same as above.
I have a fast machine so I would create a DVD folder for each clip.

    Open DVDShrink in Re-author.
Browse to the first dvd folder and drag the title(s) to the left.
Keep going 'til you have them all. Then click Backup!
The output worked for me in PowerDVD V5.0

These are 2 VHS conversions. First is 4:3 and the second is 16:9
Checked with PowedDVD's Configuration/Information whilst both halves were running.
Definitely different ARs. Played OK in my cheap cheap DVD player.
    Hope it helps.

Trev is correct. 4:3 and 16:9 material should be in separate titlesets. This is because each titleset can have only one aspect ratio. This is stored in the IFO file, as well as the video header. When your player reads the IFO it assumes all titles in that titleset will have an AR that matches what the IFO says it will be. If they don't, the player will play them back using the IFO AR, but the video AR will be incorrect.

The Shrink solution posted above is an elegant way around the problem, assuming you do not need menus.

If you do, you will have to look at a different authoring tool, as DVDAuthorGUI only supports a single titleset.

    many thanks to all,

i do need a menu, only one menu, so what other dvd authoring tool should i use? free and simple, i found "GUI for dvdauthor" will it do? is there a better tool?

btw all the videos i use are sperated from the audio (.M2V + .MP2) i used to match them on DVDAuthorGUI.

    I like to use DVDStyler.
This is the User Guide. http://dvdstyler.sourceforge.net/docs/DVDStylerManual.pdf

This is a cut from the user guide

    If only I had remembered.

If the video and audio are demuxed, as yours are, drag the video down to the timeline, then drag the audio down and drop it on top of the video.
