    Hi, I have a Sony HC7 High Definition video camera and want to be able to back up the HD videos I have on it to a PC.

    Is there a way to backup these HD videos to a PC?

    You should be able to use the FireWire (1394A) connection for transfer. You do need a FireWire card or connection on your computer, along with a FireWire cable, usually mini 4 pin on the camera end and 6 pin on the computer end. Try WinDV to transfer the DV to your hard drive. If it's similar to standard DV, it will be about 13GB per hour of video.

    You need HDVsplit for HDV.

    You also need XP SP2 full or later (or the relevant files from it) to capture HDV. XP SP1 won't work, and some "lite" OEM installs don't work either.

    Is your camera a HDR-HC7? If so I have the same camera and Personally, I'd just keep the tape as my backup and just capture off and edit, make discs etc., but I don't think that any storage media for backup is better than the Dv tape it's on right now. Even large servers etc. still use tape backup.

    JMHO though
