  1. Hi,

I have a bunch of blank cd-r which are never recognized by my burner.

Sometimes, I can get them recognized but I need to eject and load them someltimes up to 10 times. WHen they are recognized, I can only burn at 4x, hight speeds with cause "POWER CALIBRATION ERRORS".

If I try to burn the disk which is not recognized (nero theels it's 0 MB), at ask me to try to burn it with overburning (Data to be written 150 MB, disk space available 12 MB).

Is it a bad bunch of cdr's or the burner start to die ????

If it only happens with those particular discs, probably bad discs. But if it happens with others, could be the CD laser is failing. It's separate from the DVD laser. But usually the DVD laser fails first.

And I suppose CDs have a burning strategy, same as DVDs. If so, it could be a burner firmware problem. But I would try different CDs before I would upgrade the firmware just for CD burning.

One other possibility is dirt on the laser lens, but that should affect the DVD burning first.

Power calibration is done before each burn, to set the burning speed and power. It's done on a special area near the center of the disc. The PC error can also be caused by a failing power supply, but again, DVD burning is usually affected first.

You didn't mention if DVDs burn properly. If they work with no problems and different CDs don't work, then I would consider replacing the burner, after a cleaning and a firmware update, if you need CD burning as an option.

  3. For dvd it works fine without any problems at any speed.

I'll try with another cd-r brand to see wat happens.

  4. I've tried with 2 other brands of cd-r and these ones worked fine.

So, I think I've got a bad bunch of cd-r or my burner don't like them.

  6. I've take a look at this site, but the firmware is not an official one.

    And my burner is a 2500A not a 2510A.

One possibility - they aren't blank.

Nero may be reporting correct info.

What brand of disks are these and how did you get them?

  8. They are blank. At least nothing seems to be burned when I look at the dye.

Here is the same disc (recognized after load/eject at least 8 times):

    Not recognized:

Recognized (but will fail with POWER CALIBRATION ERROR message while trying to burn. If it succeed to burn, the disc will contain a lot of unreadable datas or not read at all):

The brand is Bulkpaq and I got them from an online store.

  12. I've tried those cd-r in a very old (2001) cd-r only burner and they are instantly recognized.

If I try to upgrade my 2500 to a 2510, can I go back to a 2500 official firmware if it's not working ?

What firmware is recommanded since there are several ones for the 2500/2510 ?

    Thanks.

    Latest for 2510, see Liggy&Dee.

Yes, you can go back using BinFlash.
    Make a backup before flashing!

  14. I don't try further.

It's definately the burner which die.

It can't read correctly cd-r, I always got a lot of bad blocks and it has a lot of difficulties to read them (I need sometime to load/eject them sereval times until windows sees te files on the cd's).
My dvd-rom drive read all of them at full speed without any problem.

    Time to replace it.
