Ok I'm getting really frustrated here, I have been using Auto Gordian Knot to convert vob files to avi. The problem is when I go to the folder AGK makes to transfer the avi file to another comp on the network or just move it to another folder, I will get a windows explorer has encounter an error and needs to close, or everything on the desktop just disappears. This is on a windows XP SP2 machines, I will push the close button and if everything hasn't already disappeared it will, then reappear about 30 seconds later and the computer seems to be find until I go back to that AGK TMP folder and will do it again. This is happening on 2 very different machines but same OS. I have tried new HDD, New mainboards and memory, fresh install of Win XP. the only common denominator seems to be AGK and Win XP SP2. The AGK version is the latest. The Vob files I am converting are anywhere from 1 gig to 4 gig home/journal videos. Anybody else have this problem?
I'm gonna go make another drink before i pull my hair out............

Does the same crash ever happen when you go to any other folder with AVIs (especially if they're similar to the ones you've produced with AGK)? I'm wondering if it could be an issue with Explorer's thumbnail generation routines.

Yes, that does happen quite a bit, on larger files (1 gig or larger)
But on all my windows machine I have turned off the view folders as icon and have my file system in explorer set to details view.

I believe Explorer still scans/processes the files even when you tell it not to generate thumbnails or use Details view.

Try this: Open a command prompt (or use Start > Run) and enter the following:
    regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

...to disable Explorer's thumbnails. (To undo that, enter the above command again without the '/u'.)

If that doesn't work (for any reason other than not being able to find the regsvr32.exe file when you enter the above), you might have a codec issue or another Explorer extension also causing problems.

Ok, I got around to trying that, so far so good on the existing files. I will try it with some new files shortly.
    Thanks
