I've got a question, I've read in a couple places things that indicate that a PS3 can speed up your computer's rendering time when making the final output of your video. I was wondering if this is a fact and if so, how could I do it.

If this is not true, how can I speed up rendering time on my PC? Is there any hardware specifications that would help?
    Thanks!!

What encoder are you using? For MPEG encoding TMPGEnc Plus is very slow. CCE is several times faster and delivers better quality.

Switching from 2-pass VBR to single pass constant quality encoding will double your rendering speed.

Depending on the encoder you use you may be able to reduce the motion search settings. This will decrease the quality of 2-pass VBR or CBR encoding a bit. When using single pass constant quality encoding the files will get bigger. But using the widest search often takes several times longer than using a medium setting with very minor improvement.

    There are hardware encoders like

But for the price of the FireCoder you can buy a new PC.

Thanks for the speedy reply, so how would this work?

Is it compatable with Sony Vegas? Would I just render it the same way from vegas when I want to output the video. Or is this like a standalone video editor? Thanks!

  4. I don't believe the FireCoder works with Sony Vegas. You should ask Canopus. Or maybe someone else here knows.

You would get the best results by replacing your aging athlon with a modern multi-core CPU and associated platform.
