Verbatim and Yuden

Hi all, I just bought Verbatim DVD+R 16x and unlike older Verbatim this one does not have white Verbatim printed near the hole. Also when I use Nero to inpect it said that Manufacturer unknown and MID as YUDEN000 T03. Is this genuine Verbatim or I have bought a fake product? Thanks for the info!

Not sure about the Verbs but the Yudens look genuine.
Some of the Yeuden codes are:
4x dvd-r = TYG01 / GD00xxxx
8x dvd-r = TYG02 / GG00xxxx
16x dvd-r = TYG03 / GH00xxxx

8x dvd+r = YUDEN000T02 / TG00xxxx
16x dvd+r = YUDEN000T03 / TH00xxxx

Verbatim Europe does indeed use some Taiyo Yuden in certain lines.

i've used both brands and they are indeed good quality. I understand your concern though, you can never trust the label on the box anymore.

I am in South East Asia. The DVD has Verbatim logo on it but there is no printed text around the hole.

Well, I haven't got any problem yet (it burn 16x OK) but I am worry about the longevity of data. BTW, I am sure that most of DVD in my country is done without local Verbatim (parallel import/black market). So it won't help asking them. So is it possible that a DVD has Verbatim brand but report itself as Yuden000T03?

The new Verbatim media doesn't have the white Verbatim text in the hub area. I've no doubt the OP has legit Verbatim-branded TY media.

I'm in Hong Kong. I preferentially use Verbatim branded discs, with "Made in Japan" on the package.
DVD Identifier says these are:
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T03-000]

The top surface has a distinctive stippled pattern.
These are the best discs I've used.

Hi all, I inspect the packaging again and it said made in Japan (instead of Made in Singapore with previous version) and also it said Verbatim Europe. Maybe this is indeed Verbatim Europe DVD that is bring to this area by importer (not by Verbatim).

However Verbatim have not answer my email.

Verbatim Singapore has answer me and said it is genuine. I just feel funny why Nero said manufacturer unknown. But again I got older copy of Nero since they upgrade is very big size and take some time to download.

i have a slightly related problem..purchased verbatim data life plus inkjet printable dvd+r hub printable discs.
i use my dvdr to check media id and it lists them as "MCC" but no following numbers or letters, while with my sony discs it lists as "SONY 16D1" which is authenthic.
supermediastore has offered to take them back but i want to be sure i'm not missing something. i have looked at the media id listings both here and digitalfaq and do not see just "MCC".
anybody have any suggestions?

Try using Nero CD-DVD Speed to check the MID. Some programs only report the first few letters in the code, for some reason.

Don't really know what the f#@k is going on with Verbatims anymore. I see on the shelves side by side, Verbatim 'made in Taiwan MCC', 'made inTaiwan MKC', 'made in China', 'made in Singapore', 'made in India' , 'orange cakeboxes', 'blue cake boxes', !!!!!Bloody hell ! When someones says "use Verbatim", just WHAT Verbatim are they talking about ? Verbatim have created a very very confusing state of affairs here.

We are a little spoiled here in the US. We have not seen any of the Made in China Verbatim yet that is starting to turn up in Europe. Even the Made in India Verbatim was slow to make in to the US. Most posters on here are referring to Made in Taiwan (by CMC or Prodisc) for SL media when they recommend Verbatim and Made in Singapore for DL.

From all good stuff, all quality stuff, coming from the world leaders, the Japanese, now nothing, zip. Everything from China whether we want it not. I suppose Chinese cars will soon start appearing. The Japanese should slap themselves in the face and wakeup.

Because the big electronics companies don't wanna pay for higher labor costs so they outsource to other countries for cheap ass labor. With the end result in poor quality control for electronics and media.

This is why (premium line) Taiyo Tuden is the ONLY way to go for SL media today. There is no guess work, you know exactly what you're getting (Made in Japan TY), so long as you get it from a reputable online dealer such as Rima, Supermedia store or American Digital. And, the price is cheap, you may pay "a little" more but not much more. I fail to understand why people would screw around with anything else at this time .

Verbatim's single layer DataLife Plus line (both +R and -R) are made only by MCC in Taiwan and these are excellent discs, but like TY you'll have to mail order to get them.

I couldn't agree more and thats why I stock up on TY's (but not from locally) whenever I get the chance, and I have a good stash. However , I still look at the shelves, I want to recommend to others what to get thats available, and thats when my head starts spinning.

Varies by locale - here in the Central Kentucky - Southern Indiana market we see quite a few MII SL Verbatim, especially in the 100 packs. I've only used maybe 150 or so but I've not noticed them to be all that bad really. They do not scan as well in regards PIE/PIF but video playback has been excellent thus far. I have yet to see any quality control concerns with these as I have first hand with the MII DL MKM 001's. Keep in perspective my limited numbers of product used at this point. I would still take MIT over MII if given the choice; but Moser Baer of India falls into the same relationship scenario as CMC and Prodisc. They use MCC/MKM technology, materials and processes. Just a different manufacturing line and a different country of origin obviously.
