I have spent my entire day trying to find my answers all over different Video help type web sites. (I liked this one bestI am little scared to even post my question because I know you all get irritated by that. All I need is to be pointed in the right drection of where learn how to use ffdshow. I want to convert some video files that I have so I can burn them to cd. I just need a step by step giud on how to do it. I downloaded the converter program but have no idea how to use it. Can anyone help or point me to the appropriate forum within this site. I would really appreciate-remember simple is best for me and my simple mind!LOL

Here some brief lessons:
1. Learn to title your posts effectively. Newbie means newbie to video, not the internet. We know that, if you found this place, you can properly title your thread.
2. Never make the assumption of "I know you all get irritated by that" because it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Kind of like saying "I know that you're stupid, so I'll use small words."
3. You are in the newbie section, so people will treat you as a newbie, most likely with kid gloves.*
Since you are asking for "a step by step giud (sic)", simply look to the left for a link to *surprise* guides.

Supreme2k's "banned" statement is confusing to a lot of people and I wish he would just remove it, but there's nothing we can do about it. It probably makes other people not take him seriously, but if that's what he wants, who am I to question it? -
jbenjack, you will get better responses if you decribe more clearly what you want to do. What formats? For what purpose?
And in the future please use a more descriptive subject title in your posts to allow others to search for similar topics. I will change yours this time. From our rules:Try to choose a subject that describes your topic.
Please do not use topic subjects like Help me!!! or Problems.

To answer the original question posted (we ARE supposed to be helpful, aren't we?) the raw ffmpeg converter may be too difficult for many to use. Search for this tool: WinFF, which provides a simple graphical user interface for ffmpeg. That will do easy, 1-step conversions for most common video file formats, and spare you the ordeal of writing commands line by line. As for burining your finished files to CD, you can use a variety of burning software, from Nero to cdrTools (for the latter, get cdrtfe, which also has the front-end graphic interface).
Hopefully, this will lead you in the right direction. Good luck. -
In all fairness, I did answer his question (more than adequately). The additional info was my little favor to him/her/it.

thank you all for your comments-quite honestly i don't know enough about files and codecs and converter programs to post a question that suits everyone. I appreciate the help I did get though. I will now go under my rock and remain a lurker and try to learn that way. Peace out!

jbenjack, download gspot and use it it determine what kind of video you have. Then tell everyone exactly what your end goal is. Then others can give you very clear advice on how to accomplish your goal. We honestly can't help you unless we know what kind of files you're starting with and what you want to end with.

okay thanks-I am just a bit frazzled at the moment with trying to figure this out so i am taking a break from my videos. But I will do that when I get back into it again! Thanks

You know, my professor always tells us "there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers" whatever that means.

ha! that is what I thought too before I joined this forum!!!! I guess I just need to learn to ask "smarter" questions!!!!

My old boss used to tell us "The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask". I firmly believe this. People on this board can and will help you. You just have to know what type of file you have and what your end goal is.
