this thread made me lol. you can run two different brands of ram all day...hell you can run 4 different brands if you want as long as your mobo likes them. seeming that you dont have any OS stability issues more than likely its not the ram lol. truth be told only a handfull of companys actually make the chipsets in the ram(micron, samsung etc)

from what i've read i'd say totally and completely uninstall your video drivers...reboot...install latest video drivers. gl.

ive never seen a problem myself. usually the board will either take the stick or not. doesnt matter mix and match or not. you system will automatically lower the faster ram to match the slowest

Real Alternatives isn't working I tried Uninstalling Real Player and Reinstalling...Didn't work

I used CCleaner to clean everything....VNC/Windows Media Player 11 Work fine with Most Files....Real Alternatives/Windows Media Player Classic don't work...

Now what? It is wierd why would most of the stuff work but not Windows Media Player Classic and Real Player??

Also MY Computer LCD Monitor is set for Digital should it be set to Analog? I see Black Screen and hear sound but no video

Computer now just has 1GB KINGSTON PC4300 and 1GB K-Byte PC5300...Computer reads that I have 2GBs of RAM

"most of the stuff " = one thing = VLC -- right?

Did you uninstall all that useless garbage from your computer yet? CCleaner will only help AFTER that junk is gone.

Consider using DXMAN and deleting codecs that are not needed. Be careful to not delete ones that came with Windows, else you'll have to re-install Windows.

I doubt it's the RAM, it's the codecs being hosed. Years ago, this would have meant formatting the hard drive, and reinstalling a clean copy of Windows. These days, you can repair it with software like DXMAN and CCleaner.

I think you've got tons of useless garbage installs, klite codec packs and others.

  7. You state software that works, and software that doesn't. You fail completely to DESCRIBE the condition which you define as "not working". If I tell you my car doesn't work, that is not very helpful but if I state that left and right front tires are flat on the bottom, now we know what to do.

You describe "black screen and no audio" but fail to relate this to particular software. This would seem to be a playback problem, apparently different from "software does not work at all". Accurate and precise information is necessary.

You describe various stages where software has seemingly become functional, after "making changes". Detailed descriptions of WHAT actions have had WHAT results is absolutely essential. My car that "doesn't work", I "messed with it" and now it sorta works but rides real bumpy. (three weeks later) Are triangular tires OK?

Also not clear if a TV is attached in addition to the monitor. This is very important.

Basically, your problem involves Overlay. Functioning player software, meaning it loads and runs with no errors with working menus and settable options, but with audio but black screen showing no video, is classic. This is usually used to display the video full screen on a seperate TV screen, hence the reason for the previous question.

It is in Display settings, the "clone" mode you mentioned earlier, this may also be affected by what displays are physically connected, this physical connection being just as if not more important than the software settings made.

The other softwares are just screwed up, "how" is not important, "why" is almost certainly the installation of bad additional software. You have programs which are functioning correctly for playback, the video is just being directed to a place you do not wish to choose. You simply need to choose the correct destination.

There is just about No Way in Hell the RAM caused this problem.

Also I was told I need this Codec....

    Codec is missing

Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Microsoft ADPCM Format (2) codec is not installed on your computer.

The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To search for the Microsoft ADPCM Format (2)

  11. IS your Monitor connected to your computer? If the plug is just a liitle bit loose that can cause most/all the problems you are having. Try unplugging and re-plugging all your leads. AFAIK using two different speed ram will either cause your computer to fail to boot up, or it will run, but the memory will only run at the slowest speed. I think you have a CODEC issue which may only be resolved by restoring from your last system backup (yep? or "what system backup"). I also think you may have dislodged your video card slightly. Dont worry Windows is easily installable from CD and you didn't really want to keep any of your existing data did you?
ps I dont see any of your screengrabs

According to your ECS motherboard model KINGSTON recommends the 2GB DDR2 800mhz RAM:

    Cost is $59.00 from KINGSTON
    http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/partsinfo.asp?root=&LinkBack=&ktcpart...D2N5K2/2G&id=1

Or you can get it from Newegg.com for $49.99.
