I try to capture a tv show from a PAL VHS... I knwo it'sprobably studpi to capture a bigger picture than 352x288 then but I felt liek trying to test some things and thoughts... but i can't.. I can't choose bigger size than the PAL format... WHY???

    Questions:

Does Virtual dub "feel" what size it is and disables any other sizes?
Does it have to do with the Capture Device?

I have a ATI AIW Radeon... using the WDM wrapper.... the AIW can capture bigger sizes in MPEg-2 so why not in AVI???

    please help...
    Thanx/

  2. Hi,

I have the same problem with my AIW Pro card (8Mb AGP).

Up to 352x288 AVI capture (MMC or Virtual Dub)
MPEG capture will allow me to go much higher (In MMC 7.0), but my processor can't cope. (K6-2-500 at 5x105).

I have written to ATI for help.

If anyone knows the definative answer to this problem (I have seen many similar posts but never a satisfactory answer) could they post it here. Maybe we could add it to a FAQ somewhere ?

    cheers,

    Col.

I tried some reg hacking here for the ATI TV tool... I figured if you can make an reg tool for the Mpeg files why nopt the AVi?? so I started and there was no problem in finding the right keys and set the right value... but when saved and then opened the TV tool.. it was back to the old setting... and checkign the registry it was back to the original... after some other tries.. .the TV tool did'nt accept the AVI template and skiped loading it... this is really strange. And since it does'nt work in Virtual Dub withh bigger captures.. I guess the ATI AIW really suck... but I myself will write and ask to the ATI technical support!
    Thanx/

  4. Nice try with the registry thing...

    Further info...

I can capture at 720x288 so the limit is the 288 part (is that the vertical ?).

I'm pretty sure it's a driver problem. I have the latest drivers for my card - problem is, they're quite old. Maybe I can't sort my card.
One of the threads below says that it is the WDM drivers that cause the problem and we need the drivers that support VFW. Hopefully someone can clarify this for us..

Lets keep this thread at the top until we get an answer !!!!
Then hopefully we could get it added to the FAQ..

Here is the wrapper people talk about http://shopgeo.virtualave.net/wrapper.zip

I'll try this tonight to see if anything changes, although it looks like this will just set up "Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32)" which is what is already there when I check capture devices in Virtual Dub.

    cheers,

Here's some interesting reading abotu the card

    http://tangentsoft.net/video/mpeg/reviews/aiw.html

It does'nt really cover AVI capture at big sizes but explains alittle about Macrovision and WDM stuff... definatly worth reading if you have an AWI card.

    and here...

    http://www.geocities.com/azali3/capture.html

where you actually se a screendump with a avi capture of 720x480 from Virtual Dub... so this makes me happy... since it SHOULD work.

and here... whre it seems like the solution is written... which would be.. MMC 7.1 or later...

    http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=007Qpw

and here's a complete guide how to install and greate explanations

    Thanx/
