Was wondering if there is such a converter that will convert .ass or .ssa to .sub/.idx?

Tried it, but I don't think they have it. Tried many of the programs under the tools section for subtitles, but couldn't find any.

  4. Both are supported (ass, ssa) in the v4 beta 1

  5. If I'm not mistaken from your other post, you are going through all this because subs were displayed "differently" when you used convertxtodvd?

FYI, there are font display settings for convertxtodvd, you can use different styles , colours, sizes, etc...

Have you ever tried txt2vobsub just try it and tell me what do you think about it.
Txt2vobsub can support Unicode that Subtitle_Workshop doesn't support.

Hopping that you find the right software.

Try MaestroSBT. I'm not sure what output bitmap format it uses, but there are converters between the various SUP and SUB styles.

MaestroSBT outputs BMPs, TIFFs or TGAs for the pictures plus
a .SST, .SON or .SUB for the index file. The problem is, the OP appears
not to want to deal with a real DVD-authoring application.

Hi, yes I realize I can change the settings there, but some of the subtitles have many characteristics. For example, in the ass file, there are about 5 subtitles, one for the intro which could be say verdana, blue and might be located at the top. The main subtitles might just be white with a black outline located near the bottom. The outro might be yellow and italic located to the right side, and etc. If I use cxd to apply the style, it will place them all at the bottom with all one style.

I forgot I posted in this forum I found it again when doing a search. Most of my posts are in the newbie forums, so you can move them there.

Can anyone enlighten me on how to do the conversion to .idx/.sub with Maestro? Have no clue how to use the interface.

You don't. You convert to SON, SST or some other formats. SON can be directly converted to IDX/SUB using SON2VobSub. And I don't think you'll get all those fancy colors and positioning that you find with ASS format subs.

Oops I meant to convert it to SON, because I'm not even sure how to do that much. But then if you say that converting it to SON and then to idx/sub will lose its original style/formatting I guess there is no point.
