If they're such "shady characters", how can they possibly use sunlight?

Scientists Use Sunlight to Make Fuel From CO2
That discovery will remain useless while the "scientists"
keep wanting to be slaves to the very-rich rascals and to the
    stupid and ignorant politicians.

I don't think the major issue is that such technologies simply aren't profitable yet. You can set up wind or solar generation plants but it takes forever before you see a return on the investment so they languish without investment capital. Once they do become profitable investors will be jumping over each other to invest.

In the mean time, the hell with all of them, burn coal. :P I'll give you a real world example of what we pay to heat out house.

Currently it's running us about $1500 a year to heat a 3700 sq. foot home, the basement and attic are not heated however since the furnace is in the basement the residual heat keeps it comfortable. So it's actually more than 3700 sq. ft. That also includes most of the domestic hot water year round, due to the setup the hot water supply is practically limitless. The hot water heater rarely comes on and isn't much more than glorified storage tank. It's an older home but it does have new windows and is insulated fairly well. We keep it at comfortable 70 degrees in the living space.

Now if I could only somehow use my flatulence to heat my house, I could be natural gas self sufficient.
