    Hey guys,

I have a problem, when I add subtitles to convertxtodvd the subtitles are distorted. See this pic:

After searching many threads it doesn't seem too many other people have the same problem. Anyone know why I have this?[/img]

Did you try to change the settings within convertxtodvd?
Settings / Subtitles --- Text subtitles rendering settings.

Futz around with the Font (make it smaller?), color, Etc.

I've used ConvertXtoDvd since forever but i have never used it with subtitles.

But they have a new beta version out for testing....

    https://forum.videohelp.com/topic344375.html

Look's like they have added many new options and tweaks for user's to use.
I have it but i have not installed it yet to test or check it out but maybe they have some more options for playing with sub's ?

I didn't try that, but why would my subtitles look like that anyways? hmm or could it be they don't support that format. Because the subtitle looked okay it was a sub/idx file, but for .ass and .ssa it looks distorted or either the subtitle increases by like 3x the size If I can find a program to convert .ass or .ssa you think it would work? Or was anyone with .ass or .ssa able to get it to work?

Are you making switchable subs in ConvertXtoDVD, or are these hardsubs ?
    Read my blog here.

They are switchable subs. Don't have a problem with hardcoded subs. I tried d/ling subtitle workshop (heard it was the best and most complete) but it can't save as the .sub/.idx pair?

I usually use srt subs in ConvertXtoDVD and have no problems. You can adjust font sizes etc before you encode.

I'm confused. What subtitle file are you trying to open in convertxtodvd that looks bad? what extention does it have?
Did you create it yourself? Downloaded? Please clarify.

Hi, sorry to confuse, I mentioned the troubles with file types in the 4th post. They are .ass or .ssa file that are not working. The .idx/.sub pair has worked for me though. I heard that not many programs completely support .ass so that may be the problem, so I am trying to convert .ass to .idx/.sub and see if that works, but there doesn't seem to be a program that will do that.

ConvertXtoDVD supports .SRT .SUB/IDX and .SSA/.ASS subtitle files.
Keep in mind that SUB/IDX subtitle files are graphic (bitmap) formats and cannot be changed in ConvertXtodvd while .SRT and .ASS files are text based and can be rendered within convertxtodvd.

If you want to convert your .ASS subtitle file to SUB/IDX here is how you do it:

download vobsub and use the subresync tool that came with it to load the .ASS file and than save it as an .SRT file.
(file.ass will be saved as file.ass.srt you can just rename it as file.srt)
download SubtitleCreator, load the .SRT file and than file / save VobSub, This will create a SUB/IDX combo.

If you're not sure how to change a subtille file (SRT and ASS only)in convertxtodvd then post

Another way: convert .ssa to .son via MaestroSBT,
then convert .son to .idx+.sub with son2vobsub
(worth the effort only if you really need to keep the superior
formatting-capabilities of the SSA file format).

Ok, I tried that, but some reason my subs are still don't look good, the letters are kinda blurry. Could it be something wrong with my PC?

edit: Also, the settings don't stay. The subs were in Comic sans and some subs were at the top now moved to the bottom, everything went to default with cxd settings Tahoma.

I don't think anything is wrong with your PC otherwise all files would look blurry. Could you cut a tiny fragment of this file and upload it to a site so we can take a look at it?
Also, what steps are you taking to change the fonts and size in Convertxtodvd?
Could be that your file is a little funky to begin with, not sure.

How do I cut a piece of the file? But I don't think its a problem with just that file, because I tried many different ones and they all turn out to look blurry/jagged. When I am changing the fonts in cxd I am creating a new style and applying it as the default, but I don't really want to do that. I prefer to keep the style of the original subtitles.

The one that worked was this file that has .idx/.sub it has yellow looking text and it didn't turn blurry after converting since like you said its a graphic. All the other types of files .srt .ass .ssa somehow do not turn out good. The SRT files since they are text files with no style will take the default style that cxd offers and it will be a little blurry and jagged. The .ass subs that have a lot of style get more jagged and blurry than SRT. Most of my ssa subs somehow get enlarged by around 2-3 times the size of the original. I have been doing a lot of searching and no one seems to have this problem, so I am wondering what's wrong. That's why since I know idx/sub works pretty good, I wanted to try to convert any subs to that format. But I tried your method and it didn't work.
