I have some files that are in .avi format, but are in QPEL , which render them useless in my Philips DVP-642.

I use SUPER to reformat my files, but what are the proper dimensions to use to keep the integrity of the file (fits my T V screen) and to play in my player?

Use AutoGK (with standalone compatibility turned on) or AVIReComp instead. Super may be versatile, but it's far from the sharpest tool if you have any quality concerns. Use the same resolution as your source file, and the reencoded file will play back just like the original would.
