I made a number of video clips that I PURPOSELY added in the COPY_ONCE bit (by the filter from Logic Design).

Could someone recommend an authoring program which can import these video containing the COPY_ONCE bit, allows me to build a menu, while retaining this COPY_ONCE bit all the way to the finished DVD?

Of course, the idea is to make a "somewhat" copy-protected disc. Thanks.

there isn't any copy once bit in the dvd specs so i doubt it's going to do any good or be supported by any authoring program.

  3. The problem is any such software would most likely allow setting the COPY_FREELY bit thus defeating purpose of setting the COPY_ONCE bit in the first place....

    exactly

If it can be played, it can be copied. It does not matter how many times you copy it. It can still be copied.

    mbextreme,

CGMS can't be properly set up on a dvdr. You would have to have your disk replicated for it to work. Even then, it's not much of a deterrent. As an example...adding macrovision (ACP) to a replicated dvd requires the CGMS flag bits to be set to "COPY_NEVER". so it's set that way on any dvd with macrovision...and you know how effective that is.

CGMS is patented, so it's probably not a good idea to just use a "black box" to play around with the CGMS flag in videos unless you have a license to do so from the patent holders.

Unlikely. DV contains CGMS information. As soon as any DV material gets recompressed - e.g., in Virtual Dub, WMM, Vegas etc etc - the CGMS flags are destroyed. Indeed, that's a trivial way to remove CGMS information - just recompress the whole file.

If you connect a DVD player to a MiniDV camcorder and try to record the DVD, often it will fail because the camcorder detects the CGMS signal. However, you can simply use the pass-through function and capture to disk instead. Once on disk, you can strip the CGMS signal out of the video even without intending to do so.

    JohnnyMalaria,

Actually, what I was trying to convey is that it's probably not a good idea to set the bits to effectively add CGMS to a video without a license. I'll make an effort to express myself more clearly in the future.
