    Hi everyone:

I use Epson Print CD software. When I import a picture, I can tell the software to make certain colors of the picture transparent.

Is there a Photo software that will do the same?

    Thanks

Photoshop can do that and I'm sure there are others can. You have to prepare the photo by removing the background before importing to Epson Print CD.

GIMP, if you want one for free (and that's good). Just use "select by color", click on a part of the image with the color you want to remove/make transparent and then Ctrl-K to delete all pixels of that color.

May look a little daunting at first, with lots of different windows strewn out all over the desktop, but once you get the hang of it, it rocks. Plenty of on line tutorials too.

Paint.net can also do it. Personally, I have never found any version of GIMP to be stable enough under windows to use for anything other than to test, watch it crash, and uninstall.

guns1inger and I rarely disagree - but here we do. I use GIMP daily on both Windows and Linux, and even if it's more stable on Linux, it's at least as stable as your average MS Office app on Windows. Obviously YMMV!

Unfortunately tried many versions on different setups over the years, and always get a pretty convincing crash within a couple of minutes use. It's a pity, because it looks like it should do the job, and it's the basis for (ill-fated ?) cine paint, which always looked interesting. But, like Adobe Premiere, it just doesn't like me.

I've played around with Gimpshop a bit. It's pretty stable and not bad at all. Not as powerfull as Photoshop, but it's a good free alternative. Paint.net is also a good free image editor that supports transparent alpha channels.

I've used gimp, never had any trouble it with crashing but I only used one version briefly. Didn't like it too much, thought the user interface was too clunky.

    First thing's first....
Most softwares will only allow for JPGs or BMP files in printing..Since JPGs or BMPs don't preserve transparancy you can't expect the software to honour the same function..

    Secondly...
Assuming that most printable discs white, how do you expect to get a transparent image onto the white surface?
    I mean...........
    It's white

    Am i missing something?

First, printable CDs are white but you can change the background color to the color or to a picture that you like.

Second, it's not the entire image that I want to make transparent. Epson Print CD does not support many foreign languages. Therefore, I have to use a photo software to make a picture with foreign characters agaisnt a solid color background.

When I import the foreign-language picture onto the CD template, Epson Print CD can make the background color of that picture transparent. So, the original background color I set for the CD remains uncovered.
