    Given: MacOSX 10.5.1 (Leopard) + ffmpegx ver. 0.0.9x r2

    Requirement: append .sub file to .avi file (the combination plays fine in mplayer, if running:

    $ mplayer -sub <subtitles-file>.sub movie.avi )

    Process when running ffmpegx:

    - add the video file in the Open: dialog box (and - of course - choose a name for the outcome file in the Save As ...) and default for the quick preset AVI DivX w/mencoder
    - add the sub file by checking the Filters --> VOB subtitles and providing the .sub file in the Load Subs
    - running a quick preview with the above settings and THE SUBTITLES SHOW UP
    - looking at the encoded file result and NO SUBTITLES

    What am I missing here?

    TIA,
    Stefan

    For burning subs into the output file, only text based subtitle files are supported, not the image based VobSub (idx+sub) format.

    You could try to find a matching .srt file, or try VLC's Export Wizard.
