    I got a dvd of a wedding

What I want to do is convert/encode the disks to MPEG2 I think...
So if I burn this new converted file to a DVD it will play, on an oldish standalone dvd player (none of that divx etc.)

This wedding cd is split across 6 disks about 2 hours long each, more or less 95% of the disk used.

Am I right in saying that if I convert/encode the disks to MPEG2 I can shirnk it all down to say 3 disks and still be very good quailty..

What program is the best for this... freeware prefrabley
Ive tried some programs but no luck, had audio on pc but on standalone no audio, and others outta sync etc...
Anyone got a 100% tested soulation for me dont what to go through loads of programs wasting dvd's...
I can take the x_x_x.VOB outta the disks ...

I'm confused, but I'm guessing you have 6 DVDs of the wedding for a total of 12 hours? I'm not sure where the CD's come into this. If they are DVDs, then they are already most likely MPEG-2. Even if they were MPEG-1, you wouldn't want to change that.

You can extract the MPEGs from the DVDs with VOB2MPG.

If you really need to do this, you could re-encode to 1/2 D1 MPEG-2 format. A bitrate calculator comes up with about 2300Kbps for 4 hours of video per disc. That would be more suitable for 1/2 D1. Full DI would likely look awful.

See 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left for 1/2 D1 and other info on the DVD format and specification.

Then re-author it all with a program like GUI for dvdauthor. This is all freeware.

    And welcome to our forums.
