Hello,
I have a lot of TV recordings in MPEG2 format, which I want to compress in DIVX or XVID format to save space.
For now, I intend to use the DivX 6 codec set to 1500kbps. (I might come back later with the question for XviD)
I used VirtualDubMod for single file conversions, I would however prefer a routine. Now, there is an option to check "Job control" and "Process directory". The results were, however, very unreliable: sometimes I got very big files (this is because the audio is uncompressed - it takes up to 3 times more than video), but lately, I got no audio at all.

I figured up a temporary solution: to load every single file (it always takes a long time to "parse interleaving MPEG2file" - about 30min for a file that last 1 hour!- but I abort the process immediately), in order to activate the STREAM menu, then right-click on the audio stream, set it to "full processing mode", then "compression" to "LAME MP3" "128kbps". These are the settings that I would like to use for all files.
But for now, I only managed to get good results (video AND sound, at a reasonable size) if I load every single file, set the audio stram as above then save it by checking the "run job in batch mode" case. When I'm done I just start the "job control" window and click on start.
This is ok if I convert up to 10 files, for 100 it's very annoying! I tried to save the processing settings, but if a new file is loaded from "job control" it 'forgets' the audio setting and the resulting file has no sound. Is this a bug?![]()
Is there any way I can set the audio compression once and for all?
Thanks a lot!

Actually what I thought to be a temporary solution is no solution at all
If I interrupt the "parsing interleaved MPEG 2 file " I only get a shorter file! And the corresponding job will convert exactly that!
Setting the stram to "direct stream copy" still does not work! I mean, after "process directory" in the "job control" window I still get no audio!
Please help! -
Well, I finally found a solution to my problem, but I had to use another (related) software: VirtualDub-MPEG2, which uses an older version of VirtualDub (1.6), but the Audio MEnu is active even without having to open the file first (like in the case of VirtualDubMod), and I can make the settings I want.
However, at first it didn"t work because the processing settings were saved in a .vdf file in the directory of the media files, but then I saved it in the VirtualDub-MPEG2 directory and it is fine!
I already batch-processed a lot of files and it seems to work fine, but on the Job Control window they are all marked with "Error"?!
Does anybody know where to find informations about these errors? In the log file there is none...
I suppose that the lack of ability of VirtualDubMod to set the audio processing settings in batch mode is a bug and I will report it as such.
