  1. Hello long time no hear,

I have Vista (I know I know) and was having problems with my DVD drive missing after burning a DVD. Well, Dell called me to help and the guy fixed the problem. He went into my registry and had my dvd burner restart after each burn, so it wouldn't get lost, I guess. That was his explanation. I had no time to watch him do it. The thing is now my Divx Player won't recognize my DVD burner. I have no problem with any of my other programs but Divx Player. I even uninstalled and downloaded the newest version and it still doesn't work.
    I would appreciate anybodies help.
    Thank you!!!

Don't know if it will work or not, but you could uninstall the Divx player, then delete/remove the burner (and IDE controllers) in Device manager (or whatever it is called now and assuming you can still do this in Vista). Then reboot. When it reboots, it will see the hardware and reinstall the needed drivers. You can then reinstall Divx player.

If it doesn't work, then I would be curious to know what changes were made within the registry. Or contact Dell again and tell them of the new problem created by "fixing" the old problem.

  3. I just don't believe nobody has had this problem. I have been in contact with Divx and so far no luck. I have installed there All In One Fix and only selected Burner Compatibility Fix, but no luck. I'm just giving an update so if anybody else has this problme they can use it as a reference.

    Any Administrators got any ideas??

Go back to Dell and get a proper fix for your burner. What Dell offered was a bullsh*t kludge, not a real solution
