I'm trying to organize my collection and keep track of which titles I have. Does anyone have recommendations? I would prefer to not have to manually put the data in and I would like the program to be free (open source freeware etc).

Hi loster. I don't mean to be rude, but have you considered the MS Access database
that comes with MS Office (pro) at all ??

I find it indespencible for almost everyday use. But thena gain, I guess, if you are asking
the question, then you prob don't have database experience. There is also the Open Office,
which is free, but I don't know if that suite has an Database included.

Maybe there is an online site where you can input a movie title and it will spill out a
facts in a tablular manor. Not imDB. That takes too long for its page to load, thanks to
its many flash and other things. And as time allows, whenever you get a new movie, you
can add it real quickly based on this simple search site. Perhaps someone knows aready.

    But, here's an idea..

How about this.., if you jot down the items (fields) you want to see in your movie colleciton
base, someone here might be able to write one for you, weather in ms access or other.

Here's an example, and you can revise it to your liking:

    Code:
    Genre Title year dir
    ======================================================
    sci-fi Alien 1979 Ridley Scott
sci-fi Blade Runner 1982 Ridley Scott
    sci-fi Contact 1997 Robert Zemeckis
    comedy Mallrats 1995 Kevin Smith
adventure The blue lagoon 1980 Randal Kleiser
action/adv Austin Powers.. 1997 Jay Roach
action/adv Lost in Space 1998 Stephen Hopkins
Now that I think about it, I may rewrite mine

I do have some database experience but i'm lazy and like tools to do the work for me I know open office has a database program but I wanted the ability to have pictures and ratings more then a simple text database which is all I can do with my skill level both in use of the program and design of a database. I also don't really know how to use the db prog from open office, I learned Access in school but don't want to pay for a copy or relearn how to use it. BTW No offense taken.

@Supreme2k I'll try the software you linked to.

I use GCStar on Linux for my music and movies. They've created a Windows port as well. It's free, it's open source. Supports IMDB, musicbrainz, and other scripts to get info.

Wow that looks great even "overlaps" to games perfect. However one question does it support other media such as audio cds and books? Edit looked it does I didn't even know there was this much software to do this.

Supports my music collection just fine. What do you mean by audio cds? If you're talking about putting an audio cd in the drive and click add - then not like that. But you can type in the album name, then the app will go to musicbrainz (imdb for music) to get all of the details.

I created a quick output from a couple of my music titles http://disturbed1.ulmb.com/

I only asked, because there is software (out there somewhere ) that can do this. Same for DVDs. DVD Profiler (for movies) can get the info from the inserted disc, then auto-populate the fields. DVD Profiler also works with bar scanners, which can be a life saver for large collections. There's a free version and paid version available.

    I use DVD Profiler http://www.invelos.com/

It populates all of the information pertaining to each movie, it's very customizable, and you can share your collection.

I agree about Collectorz.com. It has been a backbone software for several years and I think of it as a must have for all it can do.

Ant Movie Catalog. There, my two cents worth. The most I've had to type is a word or two of the title to fill it out. Open Source and free. http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog/
