My son's new HP laptop (Pavilion 6226US) has a region 1 DVD drive. Purchased in the US. He's taking it home to Australia and has quite a collection of PAL DVD's that he wants to watch on this computer. I thought it was going to be a simple matter to change the drive to Region 0, but .......
Anyone have any ideas on the best way ahead under Vista? Needs to be simple!
Cheers,

get anydvd and let it run in the background.
or this may work on vista, it works in winxp. right click on the drive/properties/hardware/select drive/properties/dvd region tab/select new region. you get a limited number of changes then it locks in.--

NO drive allows region 0 unless it's hacked.

You have to change it to Region 4 (for Australia).Originally Posted by fredfillis
Alternatively, if your son will end up with a collection of Region 1 and Region 4 discs and in the absence of any software to get around the region limits, just get a second DVD player for the PC - they are very cheap. Set one of them to Region 1 and the other to Region 4. -
This is a one time fee and the program is updated frequently. I paid a year ago and I still get free updates. It pays for itself after about a month. I highly recommend this program. No, I do not work for Slysoft. I don't know where you are getting $72 dollars from, it is $50. You can even try before you buy.Originally Posted by fredfillisBelieving yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

Slysoft had an announcement on their main page throughout December warning people that they were moving to Euro pricing on Jan. 1 and that this would raise the price about 40% for U.S. buyers. They also offered a 20% discount at the time but that's expired.
Glad I bought it back in 2004. The US dollar is going to hell.
