Hello it's been a while since I used mpeg streamclip and things seem to work diffrently now darn it.
In some past version of mpeg streamclip I could open a .vob file, do some editing and then when I did a 'save as' it would make a new .vob file. It didn't make a video ts folder with all the parts, just a .vob file, which I could burn to a DVD using Toast video mode without re-encoding.

Now in version 1.9 when I do a 'save as' it saves as .mpeg with no sound! Toast wants to re-encode it for a DVD. I know there are other conversion/demux etc options (which i don't know much about but tried 'em anyway). The ones i've tried need re-encoding.

Can someone please tell me he how I can edit .vob files in mpeg streamclip without re-encoding?
    I used to.
    Thanks!

I bet if you opened that MPEG in Streamclip or VLC Player you'll hear sound. The MPEG also will probably work in Toast without re-encoding if you choose Never Re-encode in Toast's custom encoder settings window.

Whoo-hoo it works! I knew it was as simple as that but when the sound didn't play back in Quicktime it threw me off. I also prob. forgot to tell toast to never re-encode.
Thanks for keeping me on my toes Frobozz!

    I responded too soon.
Yes a couple of short files burned without re-encoding in Toast but the others start to multiplex then switch to encoding after a couple of seconds.
One 30 min. file multiplexed to 99% then stopped there -- when I canceled it asked me if I really wanted to stop encoding so I guess it was encoding.

I'm just looking for a reliable way to edit my home movie files a little and re-save without re-encoding.
    Still looking!

Something else to try in Streamclip is to fix timecode breaks (Edit menu). Sometimes those breaks cause problems for Toast. Toast will insist on re-encoding when it determines the video is too far out of spec for video DVD. Dropped frames will cause Toast to stall or crash.

I don't use FfmpegX and I have but don't use MPEG2 Works. Maybe one of those can create the VIDEO_TS folder you need without re-encoding.
