I've been using AutoGK to convert DVD images to avi files. I've left most of the settings at default and I'm using the xvid codec. I have it set to create 2x700MB cd's. However, what I'm typically ending up with, is like a 650-700MB CD1 and a 400MB CD2 (plus a single of the same combined size). My question, is why is it not creating 2 700MB Cd's?

Hi-
My question, is why is it not creating 2 700MB Cd's? -
I'll have to check, I believe I've deleted them all. If so, I'll post back after my next conversion.

OK. I converted another one with the same "problem" CD1 was 699MB, and CD2 was like 500MB.
Log file is attached.

Hi-
Thanks for the log. The reason for the undersize wasn't what I thought at first - saturation of the codec. It's because of the use of a broken version of AutoGK. Ver 2.45 uses a version of XviD which when combined with the ESS chipset option being used produces undersized files because of broken VBV control. There's more here:

My suggestion is to remove the XviD codec in Add/Remove Programs, remove AutoGK, and start fresh with the latest Ver 2.48.

You should be back on track after that. -
OK. The update to v2.48 beta didn't make any difference. The file size (specifically for the second disc) is still wrong.
On a side note, you don't need to uninstall AutoGk before adding v2.48. Version 2.48 beta is an update, NOT a full install. It won't install without a previous version present/installed first.Google is your Friend -

And about the only other thing I can think of is to go back to ver2.40 which seems to work for everyone. -
No problem at all. This is all part of using a PC and using new software.
I'll try cleaning up xvid first.
I suppose I could also just use Divx.
I'll also try without the ESS option.
Thanks for your help so far.Google is your Friend -
There didn't appear to be any other xvid files that aren't supposed to be there.
I've used it for two conversions now using Divx. The first worked normally with the correct file sizes. The second conversion locked up during the creation of cd1. I tried hitting abort (which worked the last time I had a lockup and it still created the proper output), but this time it just caused vdub to completely lock up. I had to manually kill AutoGK and VirtualDub. I will try running it again tonight.Google is your Friend -
OK, so after the first successful conversion using Divx, AutoGK (VirtualDub) hangs during the split into cd1 on three different jobs. It starts the split, and then just stops. Task Manager shows the process to be "running", but if you pull up the status screen, it isn't processing any data. It is even difficult to manually kill the process.
So, any idea what's wrong with AutoGK and/or VirtualDub?Google is your Friend -
Nope, not I, and my suggestions haven't been so brilliant anyway. The usual suggestion for problems like that is to uninstall everything and start over. But you've already done that a few times, so maybe it's time to move on and see if other programs work better for you, programs such as FairUse Wizard (there's a free version around) or StaxRip.

I had some more time to experiment yesterday. So I converted another file, this time using xvid again, and I changed the audio settings. I was previously using the "original" setting to preserve the audio files (really only needed for movies contain 5.1 audio I suppose). Anyway, being as all of the current files I'm dealing with are only stereo, I chose to use CBR mp3 audio set to 128k.
Both DVD's converted normally without any lockups and the output files are the proper size (2x700MB).
I need to try this again using divx, but I have the feeling it will work properly. So the problem is likely with trying to use "original" audio.Google is your Friend -
Another update. Conversion works normally using Divx or Xvid and either original audio (AC3 5.1) or CBR mp3. The only difference between now and my earlier problems is that I am not using the standalone chipset compatibility setting. So the issue would seem to be with AutoGK and the standalone compatibility option.
