  1. hello, and thanks for any assistance that can be provided.

using ffmpegx, I changed my m4v file to a mpg with no problems. however, when I try to change the mpg into a VIDEO_TS folder, the 4-hour movie drops to 2 hours.. any idea why?

By default, ffmpegX creates a VIDEO_TS folder from the converted .mpg file, when using a DVD preset.
For authoring a VIDEO_TS folder from a DVD compliant .mpg file "manually", use the Author tool in the Tools tab.

  3. I apologize for not being clearer.

That is what I did - using the tools tab.. When I view the mpg & video_ts in VLC, one is 2 hours, the other is 4.

1/ Does QuickTime Player say the source file is 4 hours?
2/ When you drop the .m4v on ffmpegX and switch to the Video tab, how many minutes does it give in the bitrate calculator?
3/ When you drop the .mpg on ffmpegX and switch to the Video tab, how many minutes does it give in the bitrate calculator?
4/ When you drop the VIDEO_TS folder on ffmpegX and switch to the Video tab, how many minutes does it give in the bitrate calculator?

Please confirm the duration of the files involved in other tools than VLC, as I have seen weird times in VLC too often to trust it as only source of information for runtime.
