Was it the first version or the second version you tried ??

I'm still debating if i want to waste another 2 - .25 cent verbatims to test the new one.... kind of a waste of time seeing as it's NOT a dvd video or anywhere near within spec's.

If it's not playing on 99% of standalones and software players, it's absolutely worthless!!!!!!!!
What's the point of protecting something no one can watch
And as i believe it was you that said, if you can't watch it on a laptop, which a lot of people do for a mobile player, again... worthless.....

I know I'm not supposed to post yet ('cuz I didn't want to waste the time DL'ing and using up my discs--even RWs), but it sure seems to me to be somebody just baiting and using up our stock...

We've proved enough to him, why can't he prove it to us?

I think you should waste your time with a drill, a new disc and a pad lock instead.

Yeah... well.... even though we all (well except 2 of us) know it's a joke... sometimes i still have this uncontrollable urge to show how wrong someone is :P
Just for my own sanity... even though they are obviously insane 8)
    (no offense to insane people)

I'd do it myself, but I don't have a good drill bit, nor an extra lock. But I might see about making one sometime soon. Get a good Dollar Store lock, and see if I can get a vice grip for a sawhorse. Should have a good enough drill bit. I imagine shattering a few discs before getting it right.

If you could fuse the plastic, prevent oxygen from getting to the dye, and miraculously keep the dye from shifting inside, there is the slimmest chance the disc would still play. Lock removed, of course.

I wonder if it would copy with a big gaping hole in it. ISO Buster could, but full-image software would halt.

    Oh yeah...
And one other thing i thought when i DLed the first ISO image...

Why do you put a winrar.EXE file in a winzip file ??

You could just put a winrar file inside a Zip file...
Or a 7-zip file to really compress it.... not an .EXE....

see.... those of us that have only been using PC's for 10+ year's (unlike those of you who have been using pc's for 20-30 years) actually know how to extract files from any number of compressed format's without it having to be an .EXE 8)
Which a lot of people frown on.... well those that know better than to run an .EXE file from an unknown source......

  7. Well, this is how the disc shows up in my window explorer

And as you can see some files are zero bytes long. Won't copy

when you copied the files to your hard disc, have you checked the content of the ifo files and the vob.

I used dvdfab decrypter to rip the disc, wich it said went ok. But the content of the files was just garbage
not the original content. Also dvddecrypter in iso mode ripped the disc, once again the content was not
    what the original files was.

And if you say that the copy was ok, just because the program did copy some files to the hdd, well
then it is ok for you then.

I say a copy is ok, only when the files on my hd is the same as those on the dvd.

If you are not testing the special video dvd don't post here. We all know that it's NOT a dvd-video and we don't have to repeat it in every post.

  9. OK,

Mounted my dvd in linux, and yes, i was able to copy all but 3 files.
When open them with mcedit, they containd just what i was expected

But for you who said you could copy through windows explorer

What operating system do you use

And what is the content of vts_01_0.ifo & vts_01_0.bup

Windows XP Pro SP2, Vista Business - highly tweaked

I and others were able to copy your discs that could not be copied. Like I said before, you would have to ban all software and all computers. That is a tall hill to climb.

You act as if we have never heard of computers. There are software engineers,...you name it on this board. I am an information security specialist. I blew a huge hole in your story.

Your credibility is shot. I will not contribute further.

    <end rant>
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

I'm sure it would copy on Mac OS X 10.4 too, though not tried yet.

As DV8TED has pointed out, you're dealing with people here that know more than you do.
Have fun and all, but it's entirely in vain. I think I'm done here too.

As one of these 'beta testers' I believe I am entitled to post here.

I believe I saw what you see on your HDD - see my screenshot re the first version.

I also have an interest in finding a home made copy-protection system for a dvd-video (which is why I joined this topic) but I will not lose any sleep over this one.

When you have an ISO that plays any all players - software and hardware - by all means come back.

  13. Well

From now on i have decided to develop my copy-protection further and therefore
leaving this party and i will post no more information here.

It is a big big waste of time.

...and with those warm words, the topic of "Can I copy protect my home made DVD-Rs?" is concluded. The answer is still a resounding No.
I want to thank all who have participated.
    To sum it up:
Only one brand (Pioneer) of standalone played the disk.
One software player (VLC) played the disk.
The usual arsenal of rippers failed to rip the disk, but std disk/file copy did copy the contents.
The disk is not a valid Video DVD.

    /Mats
