  1. I have been capturing home video tapes to AVI files at 480x480. My goal is to then encode these to make a (x)vcd using tmpgenc, but I am a little unclear as to which settings to use. I checked out the guide here, but it didn't help me much.
Do I want this file to be an mpeg-1 or mpeg-2?
What resolution would I set the file too (352x240 like VCD)??
My Toshiba SD-2700 will only support a bitrate of 1500 (about), and plays VCD or (x)VCD but not SVCD.
I will be using Nero 5.5+ to burn the CD.

Any help, info or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. Well since your player does not support SVCD, that eliminates mpeg2 as an option. Well others will tell you about the elaborate process of forcing an mpeg2 into a VCD, but in all honesty if the max bitrate you player can handle is 1500, Id stick with mpeg1. Plus, there is still the great debate about the compression algorithms of mpeg1/mpeg2 being the same.

Added, if you player can handle 352x480, then I would choose that resolution as it would provide a "sharper" picture over 352x240.

  3. My dvd player wouldn't play SVCDs, but i made them non-standard using nero and they worked fine. There is an option to do this on the main screen.

    Hope that helps
