Alright, now I know that this issue has been covered, but I need some extra help.

I am trying to convert DVD's to WMV files so that I can play them on my Zune when I travel.

I have ripped my DVD (DVD Decrypter)
Chose my Title and Audio Tracks (DVD Shrink)
Converted the Audio to WAV (HeadAC3He)
Made a D2V Index File (DGDecode)
(Please no arguments about which programs I use. Everyone has thier personal preference.)

Now, my problem is quite simply this...

How do I feed a D2V file into Windows Media Encoder without using AviSynth or VFAPI?

If WME won't read it, you can't. Simple as that.

Why not use avisynth ? It's only a couple of lines to load the d2v file.

Your process is already overcomplicated for such a simple task. What's one more step ?

I use AutoMKV, click on it for some guides.

I can't use AviSynth because there is no 64 bit version of AviSynth. I've tried other options, and it just doesn't work.

My OS is Vista x64, and that's the only version of Windows that I have available to me.

Are there any other wraparounds besides AviSynth and VFAPI. I'll give AutoMKV a try, but I believe it needed Avisynth as well.

  5. automkv NEED avisynth.

also.. since you do a d2v , you must use avisynth.. and dgdecode.dll

Also.. even on 64bit MS OS avisynth works well

you can try another way.. just feed the big vob to windows media encoder, via directshow it will be decoded (audio and video)

Tried that too, but I get messy frame rates. So loss of A/V Sync. And AviSynth does not work with WME9-64.

  7. do a big lossless file and then transcode to wmv ?

    would be acceptable ?

Yeah, that's the solution I am working right now. But my main goal is to frameserve from the VOB to save time. That and lossless files take up an unimagineable amount of disc space!

I'm looking for the most efficient way to do this, and I keep telling myself that there has got to be a way.

The other main reason, of course, is the amount of time it takes to encode. If I use WME9 x64, my encoding is almost 50% faster! And that can shave a couple of hours off of the encode time.
