It gives me a blank black screen with sound on Quicktime and iTunes, it gives me a blank white screen with sound when I put it into TMPGEnc DVD Author, it encodes to a blank green screen with sound in a video converter, and GSpot just gives me "Unknown" and nothing else. It's 1.5 GB for a 4:29 video.

qt : Apple QuickTime (.MOV/QT)
File Type: QuickTime (.MOV)
Mime Type: video/quicktime
Codec: dvhp
Name: <unknown>
Status: Codec Status Undetermined
I Googled dvhp codec but all that came up was a suspicious looking European site that probably hosts viruses. -
That appears to be a high definition file, probably from a professional Panasonic video camera. Looking around for ' dvhp ', I found this:
dvhp DVCPRO-HD 720/60p Video QT
And: http://www.mediacollege.com/video/format/dv/dvcprohd.html
This appears to be a converter program, probably expensive, but they have a demo version, so you could at least give that a try. One of our other members more familiar with the format may have some better ideas for conversion or viewing. Or if this program works, you could look around for freeware solutions.

that's what happens when you get mystery files from unknown sources.

Thanks, but it's given me an error message: Error [swScaler: Unknown format is not supported as input format Cannot get resampling context] !
I do know it's a DVCPRO HD file, made, I presume, with a Panasonic HD cam (from other posts/forums) and rendered in a language that no common mortal video player can interpret... let alone demux! (I have to mix a voiceover to it for a client. I do it every day in avi... ). -
fourcc dvhp?
ffmpeg lists it in the supported list:
http://ftp.free.fr/MPlayer/DOCS/codecs-status.html
you should be able to play it back in smplayer or mplayer, for example, and pipe it out if you are command line saavy
for converting you could try use command line or a gui for ffmpeg, eg. winff, avanti
it really depends on which ffmpeg build you use (there are many builds, updated almost weekly, with different branches)
