  1. the camera is sony HC96, set to 16:9. I captured by vegas to AVI and it looks perfect by Win media player. After rendering all faces look longer then they are!! by about 5%.
Template I used in vegas File/Properties settings is "PAL DV (720x576, 25.000 fps)".
    Any help on that?
    thanks

Have Vegas get its "project properties" info from your original file...above the preview screen, to the left, is an icon which brings you to "project properties"....in the upper right of that window, you'll see a folder icon...click, & choose your original file as the template. You're done! Go make a sandwich while it's rendering. ;>

I did it, sorry no change, the video still looks "long". The template that appeared in the window did not change-same name same parameters. as is nothing happened.

may be a silly question but is the camera pal or ntsc?

also if you right click on the video in vegas is there a checkbox for DVavi widescreen? if there is you need to but a check in it. if not you may need a newer version of vegas than 3. versions 7 and 8 have it but i can't recall it in earlier ones.

There should be a "wide" project setting for "PAL DV (720x576, 25.000 fps)". Also, the MPeg2 render settings should include 16:9 aspect ratio. Is this lacking in Version 3?

PS: Your picture above shows how wide PAL 16:9 DV is recorded to tape and encoded to DVD. The DVD player widens (horizontally stretches) the picture out for 16:9 display at the TV.

  6. Thanks for all the answers.
    to AEDI:
    The cam is pal.

there is no checkbox for DVavi widescreen in the right click on the video.

    TO edDV:
There is a template in the project properties :" PAL DV Widescreen (720x576, 25.000 fps)". it makes the faces even longer (makes the picture less wide).
The video came from the cam using 1394 card. the AVI file was created by vegas (3) capture file feature. it is not encoded to DVD (I hope i understood your comment). the long face is in the video in the edit. I took a snapshot.
    Keep thinking, I am desparate...
