  1. 2D Shoot Em Ups on X-Box360, PS-3, Wii…

Well. It’s been well over a year since the X-Box 360, PS-3 & Wii were released, but not a single game for these consoles has caught my eye to justify buying any of the three so far.

I’m an old-school gamer, I prefer 2D Shoot Em Ups like R-Type & Gradius, Ikaruga, Raiden, Parodius. But so far to my knowledge, none of this genre has been released on any of the 3 consoles?!
And no, all those 2D downloadable games for a 5$-10$ fee don’t count. I want a full retail game released on disc media!

So, which of the three systems has a better chance of getting 2D Shoot Em Ups to spend my hard earned money on?!

    Thanks in advance.

Why waste all that 3D grunt on a 2D, sprite based, shooter ?

Perhaps there is a mame port for one of them ?

Well, the 360 does have a 2d side-scroller shooter that is free over xbox live arcade. (Aegis Wing)

I just got the ps3, so I'm not sure about that one.

But seriously - with these new "high end" toys, 2d shooters have kinda gone the way of the dodo bird.

    Indeed...
I too love a good 2D scrolling shmup, but as time passes you have to contemporize.
    Or emulate!

BTW, a new R-Type will be out on the PSP soon: "R-Type Tactics". It would seem that "R-Type Final" wasn't so 'final' after all.

fyi you can get nes, snes, n64, neo geo, and genesis games on the wii virtual consoles - not every title is avaialble but lots of the biggest games for purchasse downloads.

Also as mentioned the xbox 360 has the live arcade. Tones of oldies but goodies also available for purchase.

But as mentioned these aren't for 2d sidescrolling adction. These new consoles are for fast paced intense high res gaming.

  6. I have got R-type and Gradius on my Wii via virtual console.

    Both are the TG-16 versions.

Rent or buy an arcade cabinet with a complete 2D-game emulator!

  8. What about Gradius VI? (Gradius 6)
I remember reading an article almost 2 years ago, that it was supposed to be under development by Konami & Treasure for the SONY PS-3?!
